If I have to rank my favorite things in life in order of enjoyment, eating is right up there at the top with free travel! So, basically that means that United’s Mileage Plus Dining is just about the best thing ever invented. Here’s how it works………..you sign up for the program here and then register your credit cards/check cards with the program. When you use one of those cards at some of their eligible restaurants you will earn bonus points! How many bonus points you ask? A LOT! For new members they give you 3 points per dollar spent on dining (this is in addition to whatever normal points/miles you are earning by using your credit card). Once you have used their program 11 times, you earn 5 points per dollar on future dines. Tip: You can split the bill into two transactions of different dollar amounts to get to 11 twice as fast. Or, remember you need desert to go at the last minute and ring that up as a different transaction. You get the idea. 🙂
In addition to the normal points per dollar, they also have a couple of bonuses going on right now. First, there is a sign-up bonus where you have 30 days to spend $50 in a single transaction to earn 1,000 bonus points. Add dinner to your movie date night we talked about yesterday and you will probably easily hit that $50. They count tax and tip, so it really isn’t that hard. They also have a promo running until 6/30 where you get an additional 1,000 bonus points for every $100 you spend via their program. I have used it recently at a Which Wich and a local breakfast spot. Both times the points converted to miles and landed in my United Mileage Plus account within a couple days. They email you when this happens as well so you can easily keep track.
I’m hosting a dinner for a Mommy playgroup that I am in at the end of June and this program has helped select the company that will be catering. Why not eat good food while earning a few thousand extra miles??!! In my area there are not tons of participating restaurants, but take a look at the list on their website and try out a couple that are available in your neck of the woods. It encouraged us to try a new breakfast spot and we now love it, so it not only benefited our frequent flier account but added a new favorite to our list of regular places to eat out!
You do need a United Mileage Plus Account to register for United Mileage Plus Dining, so go to United’s website and take care of that first. Also, remember that Continental and United now have reciprocal frequent flier programs so you can transfer miles back and forth between the two programs. The best eater on earth, Little C, says “Happy Eating!”
