There is a fan-tas-tic deal going on right now if you transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to British Airways. It is running now through July 31st and it gives you a 50% bonus on the miles you transfer. So, if you transfer 20,000 miles you get an extra 10,000 (50%) for your efforts. In my case, I turned 34,000 Membership Rewards points into 51,000 British Airways Miles. That happens to be just enough for two domestic round-trip tickets within the US. It makes you transfer in multiples of 1,500, hence the extra 1,000. I know it sounds crazy, but it does actually make sense to book with British Airways if you are staying with the US.
They partner with American Airlines, so if AA has Saver Award availability, BA should be able to show the same availability. The 50% bonus allowed us to call Little C’s out of town grandparents and tell them about their Christmas present of free tickets to come visit after the holidays! Who doesn’t like a little Christmas in June?! We were able to get their tickets for less miles than we originally thought since this promo works out perfectly for them! I am going to try to help my parents take advantage of this deal as well, as soon as my momma’s AMEX Gold sign-up bonus posts.
Here’s the bad part. British Airway’s website seems to be malfunctioning today. I am new to the website, so I am not sure if this is a chronic problem or not, but I am about to murder it. Twice I got all the way through the booking only to have it give me an undefined error message. Many times I am getting an error message before it will even display flight results.
Maybe it is getting overwhelmed by over-zealous point obsessed people like me today, but argh I hope it straightens out tomorrow! I don’t have time for misbehaving websites! If I want misbehaving I will play with my adorable naughty toddler. 🙂
You may notice my continued reference of awesome AMEX Membership Rewards transfers. They are awesome right now and really help stretch your points further. I highly recommend looking into getting an AMEX with Membership Rewards! I’ll be happy to help point you in the right direction if you are interested.
I’ll keep you posted on my battle with the BA website, but this promo is super exciting for my family! Merry Christmas (in June)!
