In this post I mentioned that The Man was one more night away from us getting a big points bonus from Hyatt. Essentially, if you stayed 5 nights in a Hyatt between April 1 and June 30 you would receive 10,000 bonus points. This is in addition to the regular points you earn for staying at a Hyatt. Well, The Man met the 5 nights away requirement last week, and today I was able to use 22,000 points to book our little family a night at a Hyatt resort that is within driving distance to our house! It has a lazy river, pony rides, a super fun slide, toddler pool, outdoor movies at night, smores, etc…… The best part is that it won’t cost us a dime all because we are using points for the whole stay. All of these were points The Man has earned in the last couple months for work stays that he had to make anyway. That’s what the points game is all about for us – making the most of things you were already going to do anyway.
We wish he didn’t have nights away for work, but we choose to make the best of the situation by maximizing points earning so that we can have quality family time together as a consolation prize. 🙂 In this case, it will be a Five Star consolation prize! We are all very excited and looking forward to some good family time together.
Normally this particular hotel is 18,000 points, but we spent 22,000 points so that we get a guaranteed upgrade to a “Club Room”. This is a great thing to consider when traveling with kiddos as it gets you access to the Regency Club where there are free snacks, drinks, light breakfast, heavy appetizers in the evening (read: free dinner for cheapos like us), and dessert in the late evening. Sure it cost additional extra points, but it will allow us to avoid having huge meal expenses while enjoying our “free” weekend away.
We also were able to request a crib through Hyatt’s E-Concierge. There was a link to the E-Concierge website from our reservation confirmation they emailed to us. The E-Concierge can arrange all sorts of things for you in advance such as: cribs, amenities you want waiting for you in your room (like milk and cookies, yum!), spa appointments, etc….. It is a fully web-based concierge system where you just point and click for things you want to add to your hotel reservation.
Super handy for traveling families! In theory, the crib should be ready to go in our room when we get there. I will let you know if it worked the way it should and the quality of the crib after our trip (which is still several weeks away).
In the meantime, I will just dream of a frozen, fruity, alcohol-y, drink by the pool, Little C’s face as she plays in the lazy river, and enjoying our time together as a family……all courtesy of points. With a few strategic decisions, your family can absolutely do this, too!
