Update: Hawaiian Airlines now only awards one mile per dollar for shopping online using their portal at Amazon.com.

Hawaiian Airlines is giving away 500 free miles for linking your Hawaiian Airmiles account to your Twitter account. Five minutes ago I had neither a Hawaiian Airmiles nor Twitter account. So, don’t quit reading just yet if you don’t have those accounts either. I’m not sure if 500 miles alone would have been enough to make me get two accounts that I may never use again, but 500 miles plus the fact that you can now earn 2 miles Hawaiian Airmiles per dollar spent at Amazon was enough to decide it was a worth-while account for this mommy to have!

Amazon is my shopping BFF, but other than buying Amazon gift cards in the grocery store in order to get a 2x points bonus for grocery purchases, I had never been able to get any point bonuses for shopping there. Now that has changed! Go through their Hawaiian Air shopping portal to place your Amazon order and get 2 points per dollar spent. Here is an intro to shopping portals if you are unfamiliar. That 2 points per dollar earning would be in addition to the regular 1 point per dollar for using your credit card. Hurray!

You can use Hawaiian Airmiles for round-trips from the mainland US to Hawaii starting at 40,000 miles, but you can also use them via their partners Delta and Continental airlines if a trip to Hawaii is not in your future. Their rate for a ticket on Continental is pretty crummy, but you can get a domestic continental US roundtrip ticket on Delta for 25,000 miles – that is the standard amount, so not too bad. You can also transfer your miles to the HHonors Hilton Hotel program in increments of 5,000 points.

500 free points to get you on your way isn’t too shabby when you combine it with 2x points Amazon earnings. They are also offering a credit card sign-up bonus of 35,000 miles from Bank of America and another card also offering a 35,000 miles sign-up bonus from Bank of Hawaii.

According to this thread on Flyertalk, you can get both cards! That would give you 70,000 Hawaiian Airmiles. You would only need to earn 10,000 more to get two round-trip tickets to Hawaii! What family doesn’t want free tickets to Hawaii! Click here to get started with your free 500 miles.

To help convince you this is worth your time, here is a shot I took during a visit to Hawaii in 2005. This also happened to be my first BIG trip that I took on miles. Enjoy!

  1. Not sure if you have a US Airways Dividend Miles acct., but I believe you can earn 1 point per dollar via Amazon if Star Alliance is more your thing.

  2. UPDATE 11/27/11: It appears that the Hawaiian Airlines/Amazon “1 mile per dollar spent” is now “.5 mile/dollar spent” at Amazon…sorry to see this drop.

    • @BothofUs2, ugh. Well, I guess it was good while it lasted. To be honest, I have yet to ever see a single mile post from using the Hawaiian Portal and Amazon. I’ve used it many times and for whatever reason it never seems to go through. I’ve never bothered messing trying to chase down those miles, but it is a bit annoying. Still, I’m sure it worked for some people so I am sorry to see the amount reduce. Thanks for sharing the info!
