Mommy Points Resort Package Holiday Giveaway!

Please note this site has financial relationships with American Express and this post may contain affiliate links. Read my Advertiser Disclosure policy here to learn more about my partners.

Update: The contest has ended. Look for a winner to be announced tonight. Thanks so much for your entries!

The jack-o-lanterns have been put away, so in my house that means that the Holiday Season is officially right around the corner.  For us, there is no better time of year.  I love every single aspect of the Holidays (except the hefty credit card bills that inevitably show up, but hey, more points!) – so I want to share my family’s love of the Holidays with all of you.  The way I am going to do that is host a giveaway that not only will benefit the winner, but will also benefit Toys for Tots, one of my favorite Holiday charities.  While I know there are more important things in the world than toys, I also know how special toys can be to children who don’t have the luxury of over-stuffed toy boxes.

Fortunately, I have a partner for this giveaway to make it that much sweeter for everyone involved.  After my recent stay at The Westin La Cantera in San Antonio, I connected with some of their staff.  Since this resort is just as passionate about making the Holidays special for families as I am, we decided it was a perfect match for them to help participate in this giveaway.

The Westin La Cantera will be giving the winner this awesome package:

·         A 1-night family stay (one guest room)

·         Two 45-minute skate sessions including skate rental at FROST, the outdoor ice skating rink

·         Breakfast for two at Brannon’s Cafe

·         $20 resort credit

·         Valid for stays through November 1, 2012 (please note that the Hill Country Holidays is from November 18-January 8, 2012 and Frost skate sessions will only be valid during this time period)*.

If you have never been to this Westin resort before, check out my recent review (Part 1 and Part 2) to get an idea of how great of a place it is.  We went without our kiddo and had a great “adults only” weekend, but we also hope to take Little C in the near future as it is a perfect place for families.

My favorite thing about this giveaway is that not only will the winner get an awesome prize, but for each entry received (up to the first 250 entries) Mommy Points will donate $1 to Toys for Tots.  Since the Westin La Cantera is also invested in making the Holidays special for children (and they already partner with Toys for Tots!), they will match the amount donated by Mommy Points.  So, by entering this contest, you are not only giving your family a chance to win a great hotel package, you are helping raise money for kiddos who otherwise wouldn’t necessarily have presents under their tree, in their stockings, or for each night of Hanukkah.  Helping others while helping your own family – that’s a perfect combination in my book!

Another reason I truly believe that the Westin La Cantera is committed to making the holidays special for families is that the Holiday Activities they have that begin on 11/18 are open to the public – not just for resort guests.  They have a “North Pole” where the kids can make their own toys and crafts, artificial snow (hey, this is Texas after all), Holiday storybook readings in both English and Spanish, and an ice-skating rink ($10 for 45 minutes).

There is just something special about a “Cowboy Christmas”.  In my experience, cowboys often tell the very best stories, and play the very best Christmas Sing-a-Longs!

If I can possibly get my daughter to San Antonio in the next couple months,  I want her to experience the Holiday activities the Westin La Cantera has to offer.  If we don’t make it this year, I can guarantee we will make it in the future.  Even just by looking at the pictures, I can feel how special this place must be during the Holiday season.  Check out this page to get more information about the resort and their Holiday offerings.  You can also find them on Twitter @WestinLaCantera and Facebook.

When we stayed at this resort, we were using a free resort night we earned from Starwood Preferred Guest program earlier in the year.  If you don’t have any free resort nights to use, and want to save your cash for more Holiday shopping, you can also consider getting the Starwood American Express card.  If you spend $5000 on the card within the first six months, you will receive 25,000 SPG points.  This resort is a Category 4 hotel that will run you 10,000 points per night or 4,000 points + $60 USD if you use the SPG cash and points option.

To enter the Mommy Points Holiday Giveaway contest, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post that answers two questions:

1.  What is your favorite Holiday memory or tradition?  This can be as a child or now as an adult.

AND

2.  If you won this hotel package, what would you most be looking forward to doing at the Westin La Cantera?

Remember, each entry (up to the first 250) will be earning money towards Toys for Tots, so please spread the word so that we can max out the donation to help as many children as possible!  The contest will run until 11/08/11 at 11:59PM CST, so make sure to comment on this post prior to that time.  Each person can have a maximum of one entry, and the winner will be selected at random.  As always, valid entries must include an actual email address.  Good luck!

Just in case there are any questions, here are a few terms and conditions regarding the hotel package:

Winners must be at least 18 years of age. Upon receiving this certificate, please contact Laura Aplin at the Westin La Cantera for actual valid certificate and to make reservations. Blackout dates and other restrictions may apply. The offer is not to be combined with other offers or promotions and subject to change. Certificate is valid through November 1, 2012, has no cash value, and is non-transferable. Resort credit is not transferable, and has no cash value.

  1. 1. My favorite Holiday memory, hands down, is planning for Halloween. I love unleashing my creative (and sometimes spine-chilling) side and creating the most clever costume at the party. It’s love all the awesome compliments I get when I continue to come up with something original and funny every year.

    2. If I won this hotel package the thing I would most look forward to is having the opportunity to take a trip somewhere with my family. As I am a few years out of college but don’t have kids of my own yet, its not often I get a chance any more for family vacations, so this will be a perfect break.

  2. I really enjoy decorating my pathetic artificial tree with my husband. We got it for our first Christmas for $20 at Target, but I love it.

If I won, I would really look forward to the ice skating and visiting San Antonio. I’ve been wanting to eat at John Besh’s new restaurant for a while now.

  3. My favorite memory is of performing in the Christmas Eve pageant at church as a child. I can still see the shimmering trees and the golden glow of the candlelight. Afterward we always received a little bag filled with nuts and a few candies. It all seemed so magical.

There are a couple of things that I would most look forward to doing at the Westin La Cantera. 6 swimming pools? You’d find me in the water somewhere although I’d be willing to take a break and be part of The Cowboy Holiday Sing Along.

  4. I still remember when I used to get up real early on Christmas morning and sit in front of the tree just waititng for everyone to wake up. Now that im a dad, i cant wait for my kids to do the same this Christmas.

I would take my two boys to see a Texas winter wonderland they’ll never forget.

  5. Thanks MP. Watching our daughter dance in the Nutcracker each year is our new favorite tradition. And we’d love to just kick back and relax at the resort. Love TforT too!

  6. My favorite holiday memory is my father making Glogg – a Swedish wine & vodka drink served warm with fruit – truly a holiday experience . . .

Ice Skating in Texas? I’d like to try that . . . and living in Austin makes going to the La Cantera all that the more doable . . .

  7. Thanksgiving eating and watching the Detroit Lions (hey, they may win this year!)

Enjoy the resort and discover San Antonio, river walk, etc. Maybe take an extra day and visit Schlitterbahns (sp?) water park again!

  11. My favorite holiday memory is of my uncle, who sadly is no longer with us, dressing up as Santa and distributing gifts to all of us on Christmas morning.

My wife and I love to travel, but what we love more is to be able to getaway for a romantic weekend every so often. This would enable us to do just that. We would look forward to just being with each other at this wonderful Spg hotel.

  12. Favorite memory is walking into the house Christmas Eve after church, and running to check the stockings for small treats, and wonder at amazement what gifts were now under the Christmas tree.

I’d love to check out the pool at the Westin, and look forward to the possibility of enjoying what appears to be a great SPG hotel.

  13. My favorite holiday will be upcoming in December where my older siblings will spend Christmas together in Lihue celebrating our mom’s life who passed. This will be a first for my family spending time in Lihue. I would recreate the same environment in San Antonio, knowing that my relatives live in San Antonio and Austin, Thanks Mommy Points!

  14. My parents took several boxes from oranges, painted and decorated them to look like cars of a train. The cars were then filled with gifts. As kids, we promptly removed the gifts and got in our train cars and were thrilled with our personal train!
My husband and I have always loved the holidays. This trip would just enhance our holiday experience.

  15. Christmas morning was a special time to open gifts on at a time, especially the ones that Santa brought. The best thing was spending Christmas with my whole family, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

  19. 1. Favorite memory is walking to school in the snow, opening up the elementary school from door, and seeing a giant lighted Xmas tree, with all the kids sitting around the tree singing holiday carols before school starts…not politically correct anymore!

  22. (1) My favorite holiday memory is from my childhood when my dad, mom, brother, and I would go together to the Christmas tree lot and pick out the tree. 25. My favorite holiday tradition is one that was started by my mother giving us five kids great overstuffed holiday stockings at Christmas, including Christmas pajamas… So since we are now all adults and my mom has passed away, we siblings agreed to continue the tradition of filling Christmas stockings for each other at our annual holiday gathering. I´m in charge of getting the pajamas for everybody!

If I won the resort stay at the Westin La Cantera, the thing I would really want to do is simple – just relax with my husband at the pool with a pina colada for each of us!

Hope to win, but even if I don´t, it sounds like your cause will help to make the holidays special for lots of kids… How nice!

  26. 1) Making gingerbread mangers with my large extended family.

    2) Since moving to Texas, we have made the holidays in San Antonio a tradition. Seeing some snow (even if artificial) and ice skating outside would make the tradition even more magical.

The lil’ lady and I would probably be taking a relaxing trip for two, as it’s looking like we may have a 5 month old at that point, and I’m sure we won’t be going anywhere before then!

  32. Favorite memory- driving through Candy Cane lane in my Grandparents old neighborhood. After the drive to look at all the homes decorated we would arrive at my Grandparents to find that “Santa” had arrived with our gifts.

  34. 1) My favorite memory is making mountains of holiday cookies with my mom.
    2) I would enjoy exploring the nearby area – never been before!

  35. My favorite traditions are the ones we have started with our own kids. We were married young and had kids young too so its been great morphing some traditions from each of our families into one.

Im pretty sure my two daughters would have a blast listening to some “real cowboys” tell Christmas stories.

  36. My favorite tradition is going to midnight mass on Christmas Eve with all of my family. I am looking foward to the ice-skating rink. I love outdoor ice-skating!

  37. 1. My favorite holiday memory as a child was making garland by hand using popcorn with my mom! She passed away a few years ago and this year my son is old enough for us to recreate those magical memories! So I look forward to showing him what my mom and I did when I was a child.
    2. I think it would be awesome to take my son ice skating at the Westin! Something he has never done. I remember him watching kids ice skate when we lived in Washington DC and him pretending to skate on the ground! So that would be awesome to try!

  38. My family and I immigrated to the United States when I was 6. However, living in poverty, my family never celebrated Christmas. The thing that I really looked forward to was the day Christmas was celebrated in school as we received gifts and got to eat some yummy food. As I have grown up, I have established my own traditions and I really look forward to shopping for gifts for others as I have been blessed and like to give back.
I would love to going ice skating as I have never done that and it would be great to sit back and relax and enjoy the Texas Hill Country.

  39. Great cause!
    1. Favorite holiday memory: waking up at 5-6am on Christmas day to start opening presents
    2. Probably the ice skating, if I manage to get out of the pool

  40. Thanksgiving Dinner with my entire family. It is my favorite day of the year. I can’t believe how much our children are growing up. We eat until we are miserable.
I would love to go to San Antonio to visit with my husband and explore a part of the country we have never seen. Looks like an awesome resort.

  43. 1. Favorite tradition is having a pre-thanksgiving Thanksgiving. We cook all the food, turkey and all and have all of our closest friends over for a party a week or two before thanksgiving. Its a great excuses to get everyone together at the same time and have a blast.
    2. Looking forward to getting away with the lady and spending some alone time at a fun destination.

  44. 1)Holiday poppers/crackers and Christmas dinner and everyone wearing their paper crowns at dinner. I think this is a UK tradition.
2)Playing in the artificial snow with my daughter.

  45. 1. My favorite holiday tradition is making cookies. My mother always made the same 2-3 kinds of cookies and she now comes to my home and bakes them with me and my children. I love the smell, Christmas music on and flour and sprinkles all over the kitchen!

  46. One of my favorite memories was pulling taffy during the holiday when my grandmother came to visit. She would invite neighbors (some of who we barely knew!) and instruct everyone in the lengthy, but yummy project.

If I won this night stay, I would take my family to enjoy the skating, and breakfast in bed. We try to create a Holiday with experiences, and not material goods, so this would fit right in with our Holiday tradition.
Thanks for the opportunity and helping such a great cause!

  47. 1. My favorite tradition is putting up the exterior illumination. Clark Griswold is my hero!
    2. I would quite like to see my kids ice skating in Texas.

  48. 1 – Going to the Ballet with my daughter and making my famous pumpkin bread and cookies to give to frieds.

    2. Ice skating would be loads of fun during this trip.

  50. 1) hunt deer in the wood for 2 days before Christmas
    2) basically just relaxing with my new kid and definitely enjoying the pool and the river

  51. 1. I love so much about the holidays, and top of the list has to be spending quality time with friends and family. It is such a fantastic tradition – and we set the rule that no cell phones are allowed all of Christmas Eve. It is so relaxing.
    2. Ice skating 🙂 And of course, relaxing

  52. My favorite childhood memory of Christmas is the year that both my brother and I got new bikes. He was 10 and I was 9. I got a really cool pink Huffy bike. I loved it!
My family and I will be in San Antonio/New Braunfels for a weekend in Dec. for my son’s awards banquet where he will be awarded the 1st place championship trophy for go karting in his class. It would be great to spend one of those nights at The Westin! We love the Westin…have even considered purchasing the heavenly bed for our house. 🙂

  53. My favorite holiday memory is driving to Florida last Chrismas with family. We spent half month in Orlando, Miami, and other fun places

If I won, I will definitely take my wife on this amazing skatting trip

  54. My favorite memory from childhood is Christmas mornings opening presents with my little sister and my parents. We didn’t have much, but my parents were always so creative – something my sister and I appreciate to this day. If I won, I’d love to take my two kids to see the “snow” and enjoy the other holiday activities.

  55. 1. My favorite childhood memory is coming home late Christmas Eve Night/early Christmas morning after visiting with both sides of the family. We would come in to all the awesome presents that “Santa” left us while we were out. My dad would always let my sisters and I open one or two presents before we went to sleep for a few hours…
    2. It would be really great to take our two little girls (age 7 & 2) to ice skate and see snow while enjoying a beautiful resort experience! Who knows… maybe we could even start our own family traditions!! 😉

  56. My favorite childhood memory is when all four of us kids would get to open up one present on Christmas eve which would ALWAYS be new soft pajamas that we would wear that night. I think my Mom did this so we would all look a bit better for the dozens of pictures she would take of us opening presents the next morning on Christmas.
What I would enjoy doing at the resort would be the Cowboy Sing-a-long, and of course, utilizing their Spa!

  57. 1. Favorite holiday tradition–watching “A Christmas Story” on Christmas Eve while we eat delicious snacks and then going to midnight mass.
    2. Winning would give my husband and I a chance to visit our daughter, who now lives in San Antonio. We love the hill country!

  58. I have several holiday memories as a child, but my favorite is a new tradition. Being a newlywed, my husband and I started our own tradition of turning up the holiday songs, sipping on some tasty hot chocolate, and decorating our tree. It always ends with our cat trying to climb it and ruining our hard work.

Second, winning this would allow my Hubby and I to have a little getaway! We would curl up by the fire pit and have our worries melt away. Also, who doesn’t love the Westin beds?? Room service please! 😉

  59. 1. Favorite holiday tradition – watching my favorite movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”.
    2. Winning would give my husband and I some much needed relaxation and change of scenery!

  60. The Christmas that stands out in my memory was 2002, the year after I was first married. We had a new baby in the house, so that year, my husband’s family and my family all came to Texas from across the US, to celebrate Christmas in our home, and what a joyous Christmas it was! Since then, we had a second baby, the marriage ended and my parents have passed away, so what I would most look forward to doing at the Westin would making the most of the quality time with my children in the gorgeous Westin setting, remembering our loved ones in Heaven as we rest sublimely in those famous Westin beds, and celebrating the real “reason for the season.”

  61. My favorite holiday memory has to be when I was young, I woke up in the middle of the night, and went downstairs to sit in front of the heat. It was quiet, and the tree was lit. I remember it being a reflective moment for me. I would most look forward to skating at the Westin. I’ve only been a few times as we don’t have a rink around here, but it’s been so much fun the few times I have gone!

  62. I always enjoy decorating the Christmas tree as a family.

I’d use it for a weekend getaway with my wife. There are few things I look forward to as much as some time together, away from the ordinary.

  63. 1 – How the “new” air mattress I would sleep on to make room always ended up empty by the end of the night.

    AND

2 – Sleeping in the Heavenly bed instead of an air mattress.

  64. 1. I cherish the midnight mass christmas eve service at my church.

    2. My husband just lost his mother who would be 90 yrs next month – in our late 60s and need to keep working – the relaxation would be so needed. Thanks for this opportunity!

  66. 1. One of the favorites is to decorate the tree with all sorts of flashing lights and string popcorn together.

    2. I think the kids would most enjoy trying to ice skate.

  67. (1) My favorite childhood tradition was the big family gathering at my aunt’s house. Now, with the just-2YO twins, we’ll have to make our new traditions. (I’d prefer ‘cruising in the gulf of Mexico’, but that’s not working with DW.)

    (2) I’d love to go ice skating. I’ve toted my skates from Michigan to Austin, TX and now to ABQ and they hardly ever get used.

  68. 1. As a child I remember listening to the radio n Christmas Eve as they reported “tracking” Santa’s sleigh as it travelled across the world…
    2. If I won, I’d be looking forward to eating some great Tex-Mex food in San Antonio.

  69. 1. My memory is of my dad’s artificial Christmas tree. He never bought a new one, just pulled the old one out every year with branches dangling off of it.
    2. I look forward to the ice skating in Texas.

  70. 1. My favorite recent memory is of taking my 2 kids, now 5 and 2, to pick out and cut down a live Christmas tree, then drinking hot chocolate to warm back up!
    2. If we won, we’d either go see the Cowboy sing-a-long, or if we had to wait until later in the year we’d hit those pools!

  71. 1. Christmas as a kid brings back warm special memories. All of my family, including aunts and uncles, would travel together for the holiday. We went to Hawaii, the Caribbean and Mexico. It was great to be together but especially in warm weather as we lived in Illinois.

    2. Breakfast…and not having to be the special order cook at home. We can all sit together and connect over an amazing meal…

  72. (Parent note: my 9yr old son has written his thoughts below. His friend is visiting the Westin La Cantera on Thanksgiving and he is wanting us to go too)

Christmas, because you get what you wished for, if you behaved during the year. You get to decorate trees and meet friends and family. At the resort, I would be looking forward to relax, and participating in fun activities like arts, lazy river and golf.

  73. My favorite memory is when my siblings decided to make gifts for each other instead of buying them and my older brother crafted gumball headbands for my sister and I.

If I win this stay, I’ll most look forward to ice skating with my niece and nephew from California … they barely know what snow is like, let alone ice!

  74. My favorite hokiday tradition is sitting around the fireplace on Christmas Eve with my immediate family. We drink wine, listen to Christmas music, and open one gift. If I win the contest, I’m looking foreward to the skating…outdoor ice rinks are so much fun.

  75. My favorite holiday tradition is playing draidel under the warm glow of Hanukkah candles. If I win this contest, I am looking forward to relaxing and definitely the outdoor ice rink! Sounds like fun!!!!

  76. 1. My favorite holiday memory is Christmas 2007 … when we had the most family show up ever for Christmas. It was a great time.
    2. If won, I look forward to relaxing at the resort and exploring San Antonio. I’ve never been there before but only heard great things.

  77. My favorite Holiday tradition is from back when I still lived in my home country of the Philippines. We used to celebrate The Day of the Dead(October 31 to November 1) where we(the whole clan – cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, parents) would go to the cemetery and honor our long lost ancestors. There would be great food and it provided for great company.

If I won the package, I just want to enjoy the fact that I won something for once. I’ve never won anything before so that alone would make me happy 🙂

  78. I always cherished seeing my 3 girls faces shining with excitement the moment they came downstairs Christmas morning and had their first glimpse of the tree and the bulging socks that Santa had left.

Thing I’d most like to do at this resort . . well, it looks like a perfect place to relax and unwind a little from our hectic work schedules!

  79. 1. My favorite Holiday memory is when my entire family got together one Thanksgiving and we all held hands around the dinner table and one by one said what we were thankful for. Then, without any hesitation, the littlest one in the room shouts out, “I am thankful for every one of you! Oh and I am thankful for Jesus!”

    AND

    2. I would most likely be looking forward to honestly relaxing. 2011 has been the busiest year for me but 2012 will be the downhill climb. I will get married in January, go on a honeymoon for 2 weeks using miles I learned from mommypoints, graduate from my Master’s program in March and start my second Masters in August. It’s not easy being a student!

  80. My favorite Christmas memory is smelling the Christmas tree and taking a nap by it.

I would enjoy the great pool area in the summer and the ice skating in the winter.

    Thanks.

  81. My favorite Christmas tradition is having eggs and hagie(some type of fish) at my grandparents house on Christmas day.

I would love to explore San Antonio and go ice skating.
    Thanks.

  82. My favorite holiday tradition is getting together with my extended family on my mom’s side for Christmas Eve every year. We open presents, eat dinner, talk and laugh. I can’t imagine missing it.

I would love to relax by the pool with my husband and a good book.

  83. 1. My favorite holiday memory is more of a holiday feeling…I love how the cold weather outside compliments a warm, loving home inside. I love the smells of early morning fires in the fireplace and cinnamon in the air from holiday treats.

    AND

    2. I’d love to check out the outdoor ice-rink.

  84. My favorite memory is having the entire family together – after an early christmas dinner, we’d go over to my grandmother’s house where the extended family would get together and give gifts and most importantly, simply spend time together (talking, eating etc).

I would love to take advantage of the ice skating!

  85. 1. Drinking hot apple cider with mulling spices while opening presents on Christmas Eve and watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas
    2. Ice skating and relaxing in the pools.

  86. 1.Ice fishing with my Grandpa on Christmas Day
    2. Eating yummy mexican food and going to Jared and buying my wife a big diamond ring for Christmas

  87. My favorite holiday activity is going to Midnight church service on Christmas Eve; something about singing Silent Night with an illuminated candle really brings Christmas to life for me. The thing about this package that stands out to me would be staying at the Westin in San Antonio— my better half loves the Westin Heavenly Bed, and I’ve never gone ice skating before.

  88. 0. Another problem with the BA comment template. I’m comment 105 but the “1” is dropped.

    1. My favorite holiday tradition is, errr, cooking. I do the heavy lifting at Thanksgiving and baking (desserts) at Christmas.

    2. Picking a cold, snow-filled winter weekend to escape and lounge at the pool.

  89. My favorite holiday memories are always playing games with my family nestled in a warm room around the christmass tree

I am definitely looking forward to eating some delicious texas bar-b-que.

  90. My favorite holiday tradition is decorating the tree, making cookies, and in general getting ready for the big day. I use to look forward to doing this with my mom, and now I look forward to doing it with my own kids!
I would look forward to soaking up some family time at this beautiful resort!

  91. 1)Favorite childhood memory was being allowed to get up as early as possible to see what Santa brouht!
2)Looking forward to sleeping in in one of those great Westin beds!

  92. My favorite holiday memories involve preparing and enjoying special meals with traditional foods with the family.

Our very first family vacation was to the Texas Hill country with our first daughter. I would enjoy being in that part of the country and sampling the amenities at Westin La Cantera.

  93. My favorite holiday memory is when I was younger, we used to get together at my grandparents house on Christmas Eve and everyone would bring appetizers and desserts – and that would count as our dinner. The adults would all sit in the living room and all the cousins would gather around the kitchen table so we could visit and be close to the food!
I would look forward to taking our first family vacation as a family of 4.

  94. I love cooking and baking with my mom and grandma during the holiday season. Such great bonding time!

I think I would look forward to just relaxing and enjoying myself with no distraction (no internet allowed!). It would be such a fantastic vacation.

Thanks so much for doing this giveaway!

  95. 1. I love giving presents to my niece and nephew Christmas morning!
    2. I look forward to relaxing and taking that nature hike that you talked about!

  96. 1.) Saalbach, Austria, Chrismas Eve, 1966. There in a pension with a friend; Lisa Minelli was performing in Paris, and her personal manager, Nancy Nelson,(in later years organizer of “Evenings with Cary Grant”; then with Henry Fonda) flew to Austria to meet us. Had to drive to airport at Salzburg with snow chains to meet her. Didn’t know the highway passed through Germany (for about 2 kms), so was denied entrance due to not bringing passports. Returned to get them; bottom line 2 hours late to airport, which had closed and she was sitting in her suitcase, devastated. Back in Saalbach, at midnight we went to mass at a small church. After the service, trumpets in the tower played “Silent Night”, and the congregation lighted votive candels to put on each snow covered gravestone in the adjoining cemetery. The emotions were overwhelming, never, ever to be forgotten.

2.)As a native Texan, were I to win, I would invite a friend from Colombia for the hotel stay and just “chill out”.

  97. 1. My dad would make these cheesy sausage balls on Christmas Eve and the family would enjoy them while watching “A Christmas Story”.

    2. I’d go watch the bagpiper who comes out and plays a song in the evenings at the resort. I’d also try to find the Scotty dog that roams the property.

  98. I love the two months from Halloween through Christmas/NewYear. Its the time for lights to go up, fresh snacks to be made, and to sink in the festivities with the kids.

My family has been planning a resort stay for quite some time and everything I have read about the Westin La Cantera makes me visit it even more. Specially looking forward to a relaxing time with outdoor activities and spa.

  99. 1. My favorite was to spend time with friends and saw Christmas lighting in Hong Kong

    2. Relax and enjoy the excellent services the Westin has to offer

  100. 1. My favorite time of Christmas is watching my three little girls run from their rooms blurry eyed and ripping into the presents.
    2. I would take those same three little girls and my wife for a mini vacation and most likely visit Fiesta Texas or Sea World. San Antonio is always a nice getaway when you live in Houston.

  101. I look forward to putting up my countdown to Chistmas clock. It really gets me in the mood for the holidays. If I win, I look forward to ice skating and unwinding.

  102. 1. Every year since I was a child, my family and 2 other close families get together around the holidays to enjoy time together and exchange gifts. It’s getting harder these days with all of us kids having grown up and working (some of us even working during christmas). But any chance we get, we all now try to get together. 🙂

    2. I heart the Westin. And what I love about La Cantera is going to be the ability to escape the cold of Chicago and enjoy the warmth of Texas!

  103. 1.) My favorite holiday memory is getting Super Mario Bros. 3 when I was about 4 years old. I remember opening it up and running around screaming. I believe it may be on video somewhere.

2.) It would be nice to take my girlfriend ice skating at Western La Cantera.

  104. I look forward to Thanksgiving weekend… My husband goes hunting… My kids and I tear apart the house & decorate for Christmas… When my husband gets home, the house has been transformed!

As for San Antonio, w/ kids, we usually don’t make a ton of plans & just try to relax a bit and do the planning when we get there…So, I’m sure swimming would be in our plans for sure!

  105. My favorite holiday memory is getting together with family and playing board/card games long into the night.

I would love to use the skating lessons as I have never done that before.

  106. My favorite holiday memory is opening presents 🙂
If I were to win, I’d get to San Antonio with my wife and relax at the Westin 🙂

  107. 1. Each of us children putting the piece of the manger scene into the manger scene as that character is mentioned as dad read Luke 2.
    2. Ice skating

  108. 1. Lighting hanukkah candles then going over to friends houses’ to help decorate their christmas trees. Still my favorite holiday tradition.

    2. Ice skating and the holiday decorations at the Westin La Cantera.

  109. 1) My favorite holiday memory actually occurs every year right after Christmas — my son and I take the candy canes off the tree, crush them, and make homemade peppermint candy cane ice cream together. It helps the holidays last a little longer.

    2) I’d love to go ice skating and take in some Texas holiday cheer!

  110. Memory: hiding under my grandma’s giant table as she decorated it for whatever wonderful feast we were about to enjoy
Westin: sipping hot chocolate while watching mu husband make a fool of himself trying to ice skate

  111. My favorite holiday memory is the year my Dad decided to cut our family Christmas tree from a stand of evergreens in the backyard. When he brought it in the house, it looked very scraggly, so he sent me out to the yard to find some branches to tie onto the others. My mother saw this and said “absolutely no.” I still smile when I think of this scene.
If I win the Westin package, I’m going ice skating! I live in Florida now and haven’t ice skated in 40 years.

  112. My Favorite Holiday tradition is cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family. The sense of togetherness is a much needed refresher every year.
I would most look forward to teaching my six year old daughter to ice skate!!!

  113. 1. Favorite holiday is Christmas – the memories of late night laying under the tree staring at the lights when everyone was asleep and the serenity of the lights/decorations when driving in the crisp, cool nights in Philly
    2. Have many friends who are unemployed and haven’t had a vacation – a day away would be great and i can use my air & hotel points too
Good luck to everyone & happy holidays

  114. Great cause, count me in. Watching the kids when they were young….first look at the tree Christmas morning. Stopping in their tracks. Visiting the Alamo, the history.

  115. Here’s to helping for the Toys for Tots count!

If the responses are needed to qualify, Christmas would be my favorite from growing up, as kids it always seemed to be a good time with some sort of mischief as well with new toys. As to what I would look forward to in this trip, seeing San Antonio! Haven’t made it there yet but have heard it’s a very cool city.

  116. Searching out a Christmas tree with my father while there was a chill in the air. Living in Texas now, the occasional shorts weather at Christmas is just not the same.

At the Westin I’d look forward to kicking back and ignoring distractions.

  117. I live in San Angelo, Texas, where the Concho River flows throughout Downtown. Each year, the city puts up millions of Christmas lights along the river, creating a beautiful nighttime driving (or walking/biking) tour.

The light tour has become a family tradition in several ways. My husband’s and my anniversary is December 20. The night before my husband and I got married, we rented a city bus (trolley style) and took all of our out-of-town guests on the light tour. Every year since then, we rent a limo on our anniversary to go see the tour. This year will be our eighth limo ride. The limo driver has seen us through the birth of two children, and the loss of one. We’ve heard about the birth of his youngest son, a separation with his wife, and a romantic reunion with her.

At least one other time during the season, we take our children on the tour (in our Suburban, not the limo:)).

Every year is the same- we stop and get hot chocolate at Starbucks, then turn on Christmas music as we go through the tour. A few years ago, one of the kids figured out that if they dip the mini candy cane given at the beginning of the tour into the hot chocolate, it makes a wonderful treat! After the tour, we go home, and light a fire in the fireplace. It is definitely a tradition we plan to continue for years to come!

If we won the contest, I am sure that my husband and I and our four kids would love all the things that the Westin La Cantera has to offer. But more importantly, our favorite thing will be taking time away from our hectic schedules and spending time together as a family.

As a photography-lover, I would take plenty of pictures of all we do in San Antonio, and work on another family tradition- making a scrapbook of our vacation- when we come home.

  118. 1. My favorite childhood holiday tradition is early Christmas brunch with both sides of the family — pancakes with chocolate syrup and copious amounts of bacon whilst Granny tries to convince everyone reading Christmas books outloud will be fun. Every. Year.

    2. Getting bundled up and ice skating!

  119. My favorite holiday tradition is to do the left right christmas story with the kids. As now they are all older I get scratch off lottery tickets and we sit around the table scratching off with the story of left, right, rotating the tickets instead of presents, and it brings some competition as to who ends up with winning tickets at the end. (Never had a big $$ though) but kids still look forward to that when they come home. We also do chocolate fondue xmas eve as well.

If I won, I would enjoy the riverwalk for all it has to offer and induldge in the spa.

  120. MY FAVORITE TRADITION IS MAKING A GOOD OLD SEAFOOD GUMBO ON CHRISTMAS EVE AND FOR CHRISTMAS DAY, WE HAVE BOILED CRABS WITH POTATOES AND CORN WITH THE CAJUN SEASONING AND ALL. IF I WON, I WOULD ENJOY EVERY ASPECT OF MY TRIP THERE. LOVELY GIVEAWAY, THANKS A BUNCH

  121. My favorite holiday memory is getting my first pair of snow skis when I was 5. They were shiny and black with a red stripe down the middle. I was so excited I took them out for a test run and before I could get them on I peed my pants because I thought I saw Santa’s footprints in the snow. For reals.
If I were to win the night stay at the Westin, I would look forward to eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner there ( I love the food at Brennon’s cafe). I would also like to sip on hot chocolate, with the creamy marshmallow topping while holding hands with my handsome hubby. (awww)
