You almost never hear of a 50,000 point bonus outside of credit card sign-ups, so this is really awesome!  Here are the details straight from the press release:

The Radisson Big Night Giveaway awards 50,000 Gold Points®, enough for a free night stay at any Radisson hotel in the world, to the first 50,000 Club Carlson members who register for the promotion and then stay at a Carlson hotel.

The promotion begins Nov. 10 and runs through Dec. 30, 2011. Club Carlson members must register and stay one night at any Radisson hotel in the U.S., Canada or the Caribbean during the promotion time period. The bonus Gold Points they receive can then be used for a stay at any Carlson hotel worldwide.  Members who register after the first 50,000 giveaways will receive 15,000 bonus Gold Points.

A quick check of some Radisson rates showed that you can pretty easily get a night for under $100 per night at different locations around the country.  You can then leverage the 50,000 points earned from that night for a free night at a hotel in an expensive city like New York City, Paris, London, and many others.  Free nights start at 9,000 points, so another option would be to turn your one night stay into a 5 night free future stay.  It is certainly worth considering, especially if there is an inexpensive Radisson Hotel in an area you will be visiting.

Registration will open on November 10th.  If you don’t yet have a Club Carlson account, use this link to get an extra 2,000 points when you sign-up and complete your first stay.

Here is a portion of the official terms and conditions.  Most notable to me is that existing reservations do not qualify – you must make the reservation after registering for this promo (at least according to the rules), and it does seem to indicate that the first 50K who register are the ones who can get 50K points after completing a stay, as opposed to everyone can register and it is just the first 50K to complete their stays who get the 50K point balance.

The Big Night Giveaway Promotion (“Promotion”) is available only to Club CarlsonSM members for new reservations. To be eligible for the Promotion, members must register online for the Promotion at http://www.radissonbignightgiveaway.com (“Registration”), provide their Club Carlson member number at the time of reservation or check-in, and then complete one Qualifying Stay at any participating Radisson® or Radisson Blu hotel in the United States, Canada, or the Caribbean (“Participating Hotels”). The Qualifying Stay must begin on or after November 10, 2011 and be completed by December 30, 2011 (“Promotion Period”). A “Qualifying Stay” is defined as a stay of one or more consecutive nights through the Promotion Period, for which the guest specifically booked a rate for which Gold Points are awarded in accordance with the Club Carlson Eligible rate Terms and Conditions. Guest must be enrolled in Club Carlson and registered in the Promotion at the time of check-out (to enroll in Club Carlson, visit www.clubcarlson.com). The first 50,000 guests who complete the Promotion Registration will receive 50,000 Bonus Gold Points after the completion of the Qualifying Stay. Every guest who completes the Promotion Registration after the first 50,000 registrations will receive 15,000 Bonus Gold Points after the completion of the Qualifying Stay. These Bonus Gold Points are in addition to the standard Gold Points awarded for a regular stay.

Interested in getting in on this promo?  Where would you book your one-night stay to earn your 50,000 points?  Where would you use your free points?  I have to admit I am absolutely considering participating in this promo even though I am not normally a Club Carlson participant.

Thanks to Darcie on Milepoint for sharing this awesome news!

  1. How do you interpret “first 50,000 Club Carlson members who register for the promotion and then stay at a Carlson hotel.” ?

Do they really mean that I have to be one of the first 50K to STAY at their hotels? Meaning that if I plan a stay towards the end of the promo then I have a thin chance of actually getting the miles?

Or do they simply close registration after 50K entries?

I have a couple of possible stays in Dec, and this promo would drive me to Radisson, but afraid if the first interpretation is the correct one then it may be too late? Thoughts?

    • @Alex, my personal interpretation is it is for the first 50,000 who register for the promo and then complete the stay by 12/30. So, as long as you get registered you should be fine. I based that interpretation the sections I bolded below.

  2. I didnt have a club carlson account, but just signed up for one this afternoon! I would have loved to have these points for the grandslam this year so if nothing else, it would be worth of trade next year.

  3. @mommypoints, what were some locations you found sub $100 rooms? I’ve done a few searches on some random cities and all rates seem to be $100+ during the week.

    • @Chase, Orlando (crazy cheap), LA, and Dallas are the ones I checked and found. I don’t remember what days of the week I checked, but some of them may have been weekend dates. Weekdays may be a bit higher.

  4. Please post here when the registration goes public. That way if I follow this post by email alert I will know exactly when it goes live.

  5. Is the stay at any Carlson hotel, or at a Radisson hotel? The bolded text above states both…

A quick search for me on the Club Carlson website shows sub-$70 prices for Country Inn & Suites…but the cheapest Radisson for me is $108.

  6. Hmmm… $79 a night right down the road from my house. Looks like I’ll be checking myself and my wife in and then heading home to sleep in my own bed. It’s on the way to work too so I’ll just stop in and check out on the way.

  7. Just realized I’m in the same boat as David – Radisson prices are much higher than the Country Inn & Suites that’s so close to my house. So is it any Carlson Hotel or just Radisson?

  8. It says Radisson hotel, not a Club Carlson hotel. I assume Radisson.

I would make my stay as soon as possible on/after Nov 10. I have seen too many vague terms on promos like these to wait until the end. You do not want to be arguing technicalities with some phone rep after the fact. Get it locked down.

    Thanks for the tip MP.

  9. I did not write up this offer today since the promotion link was not available. I guess i should have posted it this morning. This is the most interest I have ever seen for Radisson brand hotels.

I interpret the offer as the first 50,000 members who stay at a Radisson Hotel after the promotion starts Nov 10. I think you will have to complete your stay in the first week of the promotion to be one of the first 50,000 guests and earn the 50,000 points bonus.

    • @Ric, who knew Radisson could be so exciting?! 😉 it could definitely be interpreted that way. Parts of the press release read that way to me and then parts read as if it is the first 50,000 who register. Hopefully we will know soon. If you are making the stay solely based on this promo I agree it would be safer to book the stay as close to 11/10 as possible.

    • @Nancy, the night you stay certainly could count assuming it was before 11/14. As for the 50K bonus points, I’m not sure how/when they would post, so not sure you would have those in time.

  10. I just checked yourroomkey.com (written about on TPG blog) and found a Radisson near me for $69 a night. Cheapest price on any other website I checked was $84 a night… so just a tip to everyone to check this website for additional savings!

    • @carwag25, thanks for sharing! I have been meaning to check out that site and just haven’t had time yet – heard good things though!

  11. Radisson Promotion countdown page.
    http://www.radissonbignightgiveaway.com/countdown

Looking at the terms posted, it does read like the first 50,000 members to register are eligible for 50,000 points.

That would be an unusual term for a promotion since 20,000 of these registrants might not actually stay at a Radisson during the promotion and knock 20,000 guests who register later and actually stay at a Radisson down to earning just 15,000 points for their stay.

    • @Ric, or maybe that is exactly how they want it…..not having to actually giveaway 50K points to 50K members. 🙂 I really hope that it is the first 50,000 who register (even if that means they don’t end up giving as many points away) as it will help people plan out their stays better rather than just making a one-night stay as soon as the promo opens. Thanks for sharing the info!

  12. Some properties will be cheaper on weekends, some on weekdays…it depends upon their mix of business and leisure travelers.

Country Inn & Suites by Carlson, Round Rock, TX, checking in on Nov 10 for 1 night, AAA, $71.10 + tax.

    • @Miles, very true about properties varying on when is cheaper. I would warn you about the Country Inn & Suites selection since the terms do say it has to be at a Radisson Hotel. Too bad because Country Inns are often cheaper!

  13. Now I reading the countdown link information, it’s states stay one night, get one night. They are giving away 50,000 nights to 50,000 people. So it’s not 50,000 points as was originally believed.

    • @Shelia, you are right that it does say “stay one night, get one night” on that page, which can be confusing. However, if you read the terms at the bottom of that page it does go on to talk about the 50,000 points, so we are still on track. Thanks for sharing though!

  14. Does club Carlson award and stay credit points for a “no show” via a prepaid advance purchase rate. I found an advance purchase rate for $69.50, it’s nearby so I could go and check in if need be.

    • @DJP, it doesn’t necessarily work widely as in does with Wyndham. I would work with a hotel directly to see if I could work something out if I was going to go that route. If anyone has had a different experience, please share!

  15. I sent the following to Radisson: In the press release for the Radisson Big Night Giveaway, it states “The Radisson Big Night Giveaway awards 50,000 Gold Points?,
enough for a free night stay at any Radisson hotel in the world, to the first 50,000 Club Carlson members who register for the promotion and then stay at a Carlson hotel.” BUT on the http://www.radissonbignightgiveaway.com/countdown website it says “To be eligible for the Promotion, members must register online for the Promotion at http://www.radissonbignightgiveaway.com (“Registration”), provide their Club Carlson member number at the time of reservation or check-in, and then complete one Qualifying Stay at any participating
Radisson? or Radisson Blu hotel in the United States, Canada, or the Caribbean (“Participating Hotels”)” So my question is, does any Carlson hotel count towards the Qualifying Stay, or does it have to be a Radisson? or Radisson Blu hotel? Thanks”

    They replied:

“In order to qualify for and receive the bonus Gold Points, guests must be a Club Carlson member, have registered for the promotion and complete a minimum one-night stay at a Radisson or Radisson Blu hotel in the U.S., Canada or the Caribbean between November 10, 2011, and December 30, 2011.”

So only a Radisson or Radisson Blu stay will count, not any Carlson Hotel.
