I wanted to take a minute and thank those of you that helped this site win the Parent’s Magazine Reader’s Choice award for the Best Family Travel blog of 2011. This award isn’t at all mine, it is yours. You not only helped Mommy Points win, but you have also helped make this site what it is. The sharing and community that goes on in the comments section of this site is my favorite part of this blog. Some people agree with what I am saying, and some don’t, but all of the conversation is valuable and makes us as a whole more knowledgeable about how to travel the world (almost) for free.
I’m not really an award sort of girl, but I truly did want to win this award in the hopes that it will help this site reach more parents who don’t yet know what miles and points can do for their family. The whole reason I started a blog in the first place was to give families like mine a place to find information on points and miles that might relate directly to them. While I absolutely loved reading many of the points blogs that existed (and I still do!), I never found one that was really on par with the way my family earns points and travels. There are some unique challenges and logistics to planning and executing successful reward travel for multiple people – especially when some of those people are still in diapers. It was my hope to have a site that was simple to understand, friendly (even to newbies), informative, and relevant for the way most families travel. With your help, I think we are on the right track.
While I am beyond thrilled that this site has grown to reach people both with and without families, I hope that through this award we’ll be able to bring more families on board to the world of miles and points. For helping me accomplish that goal I say, thank you.
