The Starwood Preferred Guest program has announced their first points promo of 2012. It you have multi-day stays it is actually pretty good. If you do a lot of one night stays, it is not so good. Here are the details:
Earn up to triple bonus Starpoints with SPG Better by the Night.
Register for our SPG® Better by the Night promotion and earn unlimited bonus Starpoints® even faster. With every stay from January 9 through April 8, 2012, at over 750 participating hotels and resorts in North and Latin America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, you’ll earn:
- Double Starpoints on two-night stays
- Triple Starpoints on stays of three nights or longer
You must register by March 15, 2012 to take advantage of this promo.
I’m happy to see that the list of non-participating hotels, at least in the US, is much shorter than it has been on some recent SPG promos. That being said, there are still a few hotels that are not participating, so make sure to take that into account when you are making reservations. Since most of my hotel stays are only for one night, I’m not personally thrilled by this promo, but it is better than nothing. I know I will now be giving preference to SPG for my longer stays for the next few months. In addition to the regular two points per dollar (three points per dollar for elite SPG members) spent at SPG hotels earned by all Starwood members, if you have the Starwood Preferred Guest® Amex, you can also earn an extra two points per dollar spent at SPG hotels. Combine that with this Better by the Night promo, and long and/or pricey Starwood stays can really rack up SPG points in a hurry.
Okay Hyatt, you are next. Spill the beans about your first promo of 2012!
