It’s Sunday morning, so time to catch-up on laundry, grocery shopping, and miles and points news.  This week I am especially desperate to run faster on the hamster wheel to catch-up on everything since I leave on Wednesday for the OneWorld MegaDO!  I am so excited, but having been on a MegaDO before I know how completely exhausted you are by the end of the trip, so being caught-up before you leave is absolutely essential.  At least for busy folks who can’t “crash” for a few days after the event!

Anyway, here are a few miles and points tidbits that I want to make sure you haven’t missed.

  • US residents can get 1,000 free Hilton HHonors points by signing up for text message offers from HHonors and registering a Visa card number.  You can then earn an additional 4,000 HHonors points after spending $100 on a registered Visa card at a Hilton hotel.   You can register up to three Visa card numbers.  You have to agree to allow HHonors to access some of your spending history on your Visa in order to sign up for this promotion.  If HHonors points are important for your family, it may be worth it.  Personally I am passing on this deal, but if you do sign up remember to text “STOP” to 43471 or by replying with the word “STOP” to any text message you may receive from mobile messaging from Hilton HHonors if/when you decide you no longer wish to receive texts from Hilton.  Advertizing text messages are one of my personal pet peeves.  Head over to MilesQuest to learn more about this deal.
  • The Frequent Travel University is returning to the New York City area the last weekend in April.  As was posted on Milepoint, the FTU includes: complimentary cocktail party on Friday night sponsored by milepoint.com; sessions on Saturday from the best in the business such as Randy Peterson and Gary Leff; on Sunday interact with programs like United Mileage Plus, American AAdvantage, SPG, and Hyatt; possible admission to the 23rd Annual Freddie Awards via a raffle, and more…
Registration opens February 10th at 4PM Mountain time.  The exact location in the NYC area for these events has not yet been posted, but I’m sure all will be announced in the coming weeks.  You will certainly find me at this event!  Head over to MilePoint to follow the thread about the FTU.
  • If you rent cars and like US Airways miles, then The Weekly Flyer has some helpful information about getting 3,000 US Airways miles for each three-day rental from Avis.
  • If you are interested in updates from the road while I am on the OneWorld MegaDO this week be sure to follow me on Twitter.  I will also be doing some actual blog posts, but Twitter updates and pictures are sometimes even more fun during events like this.  Just like last time, I will be doing some giveaways of some of the goodies collected along the way for sure!

Busy week coming up, time to get ready!

Comments

  1. @sil, this will be my first FTU, so I am not speaking from personal experience, but I bet they are “similar but different”. Sounds like they are trying to add a few different type of events into the FTU, but I’m sure there will also be some overlap.

  2. Did you go to FTU last year? I was going to try to make it this year but I might be in Austin that weekend for the Wine & Food Fest.

Have fun at the MegaDO! I look forward to your reports.

  3. Sorry, I Sent an Earlier comment that didn’t go through. I know you did the 50k Carlson Promo last Fall. This Avis-Carlson promo is good on 3day or more rentals through April 30, 2012 and I think its better than 3K DM’s.

  4. re: Hilton promo. I have no problem with registering a card, but this is the first time I’ve been asked for the expiration date when signing up. Is that common?

  5. Most rental car agencies offer one free day on a three day weekend rental. Unless the rental is super cheap, I would rather have the free day than 3,000 US Scareways miles.
