I’ve been waiting patiently anxiously for this new Priority Club PointBreaks list for a few days now, so was happy to see it released from the Priority Club vault this morning.  These are typically released on a quarterly schedule.  PointBreaks are one of the very best deals in the hotel points world.  They allow a room to be booked for just 5,000 points per night.  Priority Club points can be obtained very cheaply, so 5,000 points is almost nothing in the Priority Club world.  A little while back I had three rooms for family members booked on a PointsBreak rate at a Crowne Plaza for the weekend.  It was just almost embarrassing how great of a deal we got for just 30,000 points total for the three rooms on that trip, so I have been hooked on PointBreaks ever since.

Some tips about PointBreaks:

  • They go very quickly – do not delay, book now.  You can always cancel later, usually until about a day before the reservation.
  • Valid for bookings through May 31st.
  • If you don’t have 5,000 Priority Club points, you can transfer them in from American Express Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards.  I normally don’t recommend that transfer, but it can be worth it for PointBreaks.  You can also google “Priority Club points for .6 cents” and get back some potentially helpful information for obtaining Priority Club points in a very inexpensive manner.
  • Did I mention book quickly?  Many of the best hotel options will be gone very quickly.

Here is a just a quick example of how great PointBreaks are.  I have some travel plans that may take me to the DC area soon, so I clicked on the Crowne Plaza Dulles Airport just to see what it was like.  Not the most exciting destination in the world, but sometimes travel isn’t glamorous.

If your plans line up with PointBreaks availability at that hotel, then the room can be yours for just 5,000 points.

If not, the price of the room jumps to 25,000 points – 5x the discounted rate.

With cash, the room is going for $189, so the value per point on a PointsBreak night is pretty great, even for Priority Club Points.

Here is a list of the participating US properties.  There are participating properties all over the world, so for locations outside of the US, head over to the Priority Club website and see what is available.  Let me know if any PointBreak nights are going to work for your family!

Thanks again Mommypoints for releasing this information early. You are always on top of everything and the first blog I read daily.

I rode a PointBreak through the Crowne Plaza Prague (5,000 per night there is a STEAL) and have one additional piece of advice to add. I was getting 2 rooms for 3 nights. I had a special case where the hotel was “full” on my first night there, but my Platinum status allows me to force a vacancy (guaranteed availability). However, that only works if you’re paying for the room, so I had to pay for 1 room for 1 night. The side benefit? All of my Platinum perks now applied to the entire stay (which they normally don’t do on reward nights with PC)–bonus points, upgraded room to executive floor, etc. It was a great way to get the 5,000 PointBreak, but still have my perks.

I’ve applied that lesson to an upcoming PC stay in Paris next week. We’re getting 2 rooms for 8 nights, but I’m paying for the first 3 nights in one of the rooms (It’s not a PointBreak, so I didn’t have enough points to cover it all anyhow). This should get me all of the PC bonus points–they have nice promotions running, and my upgrades, etc. And, if it works like last time, it will apply to both rooms :)

  3. […] I saw on MommyPoints that the updated list was posted today and, lo and behold, I’m able to take advantage again! I have an upcoming stay at the Crowne Plaza Miami International Airport that I booked for 15,000 points + $60 (or 25,000 points). I called Priority Club today and they cancelled my reservation and replaced it with a 5,000 point reservation for a savings of 20,000 points. The phone call had a pretty lengthy hold time given the posting of the PointBreak list today (about 30 minutes total for the phone call), but that’s completely worth 20,000 points to me. […]

In a fun followup to my earlier comment, when I checked the list I was able to take advantage of the rate again! In fact, it’s even better than that. I had previously booked a room at the Crowne Plaza Miami International Airport at a rate of 15,000 points + $60 (which converts to a total of 25,000 points by their scheme). I called and swapped that out for the 5,000 point rate. That saved me 10,000 points and bought me 10,000 more at $.06 each. So basically, I spent $60 for a night at that hotel and gained 5,000 PC points to boot. Read details.

  5. DaninSTL says:

Didn’t work out for me. I was looking for San Fran, Sacramento in May. None on list. Also looking for Spfld MO. in November, had rooms but not at 5,000 and looking for Italy next Jan. 2013. Too far out I’d guess for my use. I’ll have to keep an eye out for future offers. Thanks for posting this though. Heck of a deal.

Glad to hear this worked out for some of you! If not this time, maybe the list that comes out in a few months will work for your travel plans. ;)

  7. Carl says:

While “buying” priority club points for .6 cents is fairly easy, it can be time consuming and there is some risk. Given the new 50% bonus from Priority Club for buying points the traditional way, the Points Breaks is a great way to leverage this.

At about .076 cents per point, plus the 60,000 from the credit card, one can get 135,000 points plus a free night, and 10% off rewards, which brings the Points Break down to 4,500 points. Over time, that equates to a total of 31 nights under $19/night.

  8. Carl says:

    correction above .76 cents/point

  9. […] and you can do whatever you wish with them.  My favorite type of redemption with these points are PointBreaks where nights are only 5,000 points each.  At 0.603 cents each, that is a hotel night for $30.15.  […]

  10. ThunderStorm says:

They removed the Crowne Plaza Newark Airport from their list!! I am so mad! How can they do this?? Advertise and then delete the hotel?

I was planning using this promo at that hotel for a trip to NYC at the end of the month.

  11. […] Points has a list of all the new Priority Club PointBreaks for up to May […]
