Good Friday, Good Credit Card Deals!

Happy Good Friday, Passover, T-minus two days until the Easter Bunny, etc.  I don’t know about your corner of the world, but it is a beautiful day outside in my corner of the world.  Fortunately, it happens to be a good day for credit card deals as well (and at least one of them is not likely to disappear on us within a few hours!).  Since it is too pretty of a day here to be inside on the computer, I’m going to keep this short, but expect more on some of these soon.

  • There is a new Chase British Airways 100,000 point offer available!  (expired) This one also requires some significant spending to get the full bonus, but 100,000 points is enough to catch my attention regardless!  After you make your first qualifying transaction, you will qualify for 50,000 bonus Avios. If you make $10,000 in qualifying transactions within 12 months of account opening, you will qualify for an additional 25,000 bonus Avios, and if you make an additional $10,000 in qualifying transactions (for a total of $20,000) within 12 months of account opening, you will qualify for an additional 25,000 bonus Avios (for a total of 100,000 bonus Avios).  While Avios aren’t what they used to be, they work out very well for how my family travels, so I will be talking more about this card in the near future so you can see if it might be right for your family.  100,000 AVios points can go a pretty long way for many families.
  • I just heard back from Chase after I sent a secure message requesting a match to the current (semi-targeted) offer of 50,000 United miles and a $50 statement credit after first purchase for the new MileagePlus Explorer card.  I had received the 50,000 miles, but not the $50 credit, so since I had applied within the last 90 days Chase matched me to that offer at my request.  Gotta love how Chase is delivering right now!  Here is a link to a thread about that deal, in case you are interested.

Time to head back outside and play, happy three day weekend to everyone!

    • @ArizonaGuy, fair enough. My husband and I are both home today, so I guess it feels more Holiday-ish here than it would otherwise. 😉 Sorry to hear you are working all weekend!

  1. Thanks for reporting your success in getting the $50 statement credit for your United MP Explorer card. I was approved for this card on 1/31/12, so I will be sending a SM as well. I suck at sending these types of emails so wish me luck!

  2. Echoing the thanks for posting your success with the statement credit (I was approved in Early Feb). I had considered doing that when I first saw the new offer, but I did not have any spend this statement as I’ve moved onto another card. Did you have any current spend on the card when you requested the credit? I’m thinking of getting a tank of gas on the card and then when that posts, PM’ing Chase…

    • David, honestly I feel guilty as I had spent $3 on the card, but I am about to purchase some United tickets and will put it on that card.

  3. @mommypoints – you made me laugh, but I totally understand. They did set the T & C and also could have said “No”. Thanks again for sharing.

  4. @ArizonaGuy Biologists and architects don’t even get MLK Day, President’s Day, or most federal holidays off. In fact, I rather like this arrangement as long as it means I can take days off on other weekends when I really want to (and without the crowds and higher prices).

@Mommy Points Thanks for sharing the Plat offer. Still not sure what I would do with MR points, but I should probably get a business card soon.

  5. Spend $20,000 in a year to get 50,000 Avios miles, no way. Better spent on multiple card qualifying spends. That s/b a no-brainer —-

  6. Hi MP,

I also got the $50 match to go with the 60,000 miles version of the United Explorer I applied for! Thanks 🙂
