According to Starwood Lurker, the official voice of the Starwood Preferred Guest program on Flyertalk, the next Starwood promotion will be called “Nice Choice” and registration will begin on May 1st.  Here is what he had to say about the next promo:

Wanted Flyertalkers to be the first to hear a few details about SPG’s next promotion, SPG Nice Choice. This promotion will be all about you. Members will have the unique opportunity to choose when, what and how you want to earn at any of our more than 1,000 hotels and resorts worldwide that participate in the SPG program (that’s right, no opt-out list!).

That’s more choice than ever, and an industry first. Registration begins May 1, 2012 (a ‘coming soon’ page will be up shortly at spg.com/nicechoice). We’ll release more details about the types of Awards and offers on Facebook and Twitter over the next several weeks, so don’t forget to “like” and “follow” us.

I am very glad to see no hotels opting out as that has become a real issue with recent SPG promos.  I would have loved to see the return of stay x nights and get a free night or resort night, but this promo sounds interesting.  Let the speculating begin – what do you think the choices will be?

Comments

  1. Sounds like a way to earn/use pts tailored to your travel needs/schedule. Mediocore at best. Bring back free nights.

  2. With the economy recovering and hotels occupancy getting back to pre-recession levels the I doubt that we will see another stay X get a free night promo for a while. (Could be a long time)

  3. I’ve waited to blog about this until we know what this is, but certainly the narrative is one that runs throughout SPG current thinking —

How to customize the guest experience.

The new 50 night upgrade benefits (getting priority on 10 nights during the year for upgrades, you pick which one)

Breakfast as an option vs points amenity

Internet or welcome drink option for Golds

75 night benefit of check in and out whenever you wish (Your24)

100 night benefit of a person to help you personalize your stay experiences.

That’s a consistent theme and I love to see consistency.

What we don’t know of course yet is whether this promotion will also be LUCRATIVE. 🙂

  4. @Mike, I’m a bit skeptical as well, but I’ll withhold judgement until we know more. 😉
@eds1830, you may very well be right, but I plan to keep hope alive for a great promo!
@Gary, ha ha, well you are more patient than me. There certainly is a consistent theme. Sadly, for me, most of those benefits have been primarily good, but not great. Perhaps that will be a theme for the next promo….primarily good, but not great. Though, good is certainly better than bad. 😉
@Steelsnow, ha ha. All fixed. If it is a great promo I’ll call him Lucker!

  5. it will be based on your travel patterns, so there will be options like Stay X amt of nights, get Y reward…. Book X amt of stays, get Y award

    Hypothetically for example,

For every 5 stays = suite upgrade award deposited to your account
For every 5 nights = 1,000 bonus spg points
