Update: I confirmed that the BA Avios offer is set to expire from the affiliate channels as well on June 7th, so plan accordingly if you want in on this offer while it lasts.
Playing catch-up in the points world. Ready, set, go!
- (expired) In my inbox, today I saw an email from British Airways about the current British Airways Visa Signature Card sign-up offer that awards up to 100,000 bonus Avios in the first year. The email said that the 100,000 Avios offer will expire on June 7th. I can’t swear that will be the date that the offer will disappear everywhere, but that is the first time I have seen a possible specific end date for this limited time promo mentioned, so I wanted to pass it along in case it was helpful in planning a round of credit card applications. I’m currently having a bit of a love affair with Avios, so getting 50,000 bonus Avios by making one purchase alone sounds pretty great to me. Getting 25,000 more after spending $10,000 on the card within the first year of account opening, and an additional 25,000 bonus Avios after you spend an additional $10,000 on the card within the first year is just icing on the cake for big spenders. You can read more about this deal here or about some of my favorite ways to use Avios here. You can also read about an alternate deal for 100,000 Avios here.
- You can get $25 off a two-night hotel stay at a GoodBuy hotel via Travelocity by “liking” them on Facebook for travel now through the end of the year (though you must book by May 14th). Head to this Flyertalk thread for more info. PS, you don’t really have to like them – just head to that thread for the offer code.
- I wanted to do a Mother’s Day post that listed out all the great ways to earn miles and points for Mother’s Day, but it may be Father’s Day by the time I got to it (apparently actually being a mother means no time to write a post about Mother’s Day!), so since lots of other great bloggers have already done something similar, I highly recommend checking out one of their posts. Here is a good one by Deals We Like! For what it’s worth, we recently needed some flowers for our daughter’s first dance recital (which was the cutest thing I have ever seen – quick snapshot shown below) and instead of paying at least $30 – $40 for the flowers online, we got a $10 bouquet at the grocery store. Wasn’t much different than some of the less expensive bouquets we have ordered online, but it was much cheaper…….and we still earned 5x points on it thanks to our Chase Freedom Visa card’s quarterly bonus in grocery stores. 😉
- I helped my parents book some nights at the Venetian in Las Vegas yesterday and noticed that the number of points required for a free room was only 25,000 per night. However, that didn’t register to me as strange until I saw a Tweet from Priority Club last night that there is a 50% discount over the normal 50,000 points required per night available for a 24 hour period! View From the Wing and Loyalty Traveler have written some more info about this deal. I think the 25,000 point level was unimpressive to me as that really wasn’t a savings over the rate they were paying per night – especially when you factor in all the bonus points promotions and $50 gift card they will get back for their two night paid stay. However, if you are trying to go on a date when rates are higher it could be worth it.
