October Ultimate Reward Mall Bonuses Released

The October Ultimate Reward shopping portal bonuses are out.  I’m happy to see Pottery Barn Kids go up from 3x to 5x as I have some Halloween stuff to order from there (purchased gift certificates to Pottery Barn don’t seem to work).  There also seem to be increases in some winter weather retailers such as North Face and Ugg Australia.  I would have liked to see an increase from Apple, Best Buy, etc so that those who are shopping for the iPhone 5 could squeeze out some extra points, but that didn’t happen.  Fingers crossed that November and the Holiday Shopping season bring in some increases on those electronics retailers.

As you may or may not already know, the shopping bonuses can vary depending on which Ultimate Rewards earning card you log-in with.  You can check out using whatever card you wish, but you need to log-in with the appropriate card to get the appropriate bonuses.  Note that there is some risk in not using a Chase card, as you are far less likely to get customer service support on the back-end if there are issues with the points posting if you aren’t using a Chase issued card.  I continue to have very good success using all sorts of cards to shop via this portal, but your success may vary.  You must have at least one Ultimate Rewards earning card to access the portal.

Here are a few of the bonuses that stand out to me as being some of the better ones that might be useful for some families.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card:

Pottery Barn Kids/Pottery Barn Teen 5x

Famous Footwear 10x

Crabtree & Evelyn 10x

Sephora 10x

Ugg Australia 10x

North Face 8x

Groupon 5x

Chase Freedom Visa:

JC Penney 10

Kohls 10x (that stacks to 15x when using Chase Freedom Q4 5x bonus)

Pottery Barn Kids/Pottery Barn Teen 5x

Famous Footwear 10x

Office Depot 5x

Ink Bold Charge Card or Ink Plus:

JC Penney 10x

Kohls 10x

Office Depot 5x

Pottery Barn Kids/Pottery Barn Teen 5x

Famous Footwear 10x

I happened to still be up late tonight when the new October payouts were released, but I see that the Freedom has an advertisement for 5x at L.L. Bean (shown as 5% cash back), while it only displays 3x, so perhaps there are still some updates in progress as I think that was a possible holdover from last month.

I’ll update the post in the morning if anything changes, or if I spot anything more interesting after a little sleep.  Let me know if you see something I missed!  Also remember that the Chase Freedom 4th Quarter 5x bonuses at Kohls, Best Buy, hotels, and airlines are now in effect and those amounts stack on top of the shopping portal bonuses.  Overall these October shopping bonuses aren’t very exciting in my mind, but hopefully this is just the calm before the Holiday Shopping Season Storm!

To see a full listing of the bonuses, and to see how they have gone up or down since last month, head to HikerT’s helpful site.  I’m sure the Frequent Miler will weigh in soon on any possible double dips or other ways to maximize Ultimate Rewards earnings in his Laboratory, so be sure to check out his site as well.

    • @mizzkityz, congrats on getting the Ink card! The online shopping portal is for purchases made online and you can’t get the gift cards online from office depot. You can get some online through Staples, but there is a fee. I still do that sometimes for different retailers when the payout is high enough.

  1. I applied for the Ink Bold a week ago through your link (thanks!), but still haven’t heard back. I’ve never gotten anything but instant approval before, so I wanted to call & check in. I want to take advantage of some of these 5x or 10x! (: Do you know if there is a business line to call? Thanks!

  2. Thanks so much mommypoints!!! I called & was approved, no problem! Now I just need to learn more about how to use the Ink Bold. So excited!

    • @Michelle, congrats! First, your home phone, cell phone, internet, and cable expenses switched to that card to earn 5x on those bills. Then get yourself to the nearest Office Depot and scout out gift cards!

  3. hey mommy,
Since i have Freedom but no Inks, is it time i dropped over to my local Office Depot and step up for the Amex/Vanilla reload deal? They have a huge supply of both. Any reason it shouldn’t work for a nice 5x, minus the ~1% card fee?

    • @Yellad, you need to get an Ink Bold or Plus card so you are getting 5x at office supply stores. The Freedom doesn’t give bonus points for office supply stores, so it wouldn’t be worth it using that card. Get an Ink card and start bringing in the 5x. 😉

  4. Michelle, tx for getting back so quickly, but i don’t think i made myself clear. You indicate that Office Depo is 5x for the month of October with Freedom, so would it work just this month like the Inks do every month? Yeah, the long term plan has Ink in it, for sure!

  5. @Yeliad, okay I think I see the problem now. The Freedom is 5x at OD, but only through the UR portal (this post just lists the UR portal bonuses). OD doesn’t sell gc online so it won’t work to get the 5x. Ink works because it gives the 5x in the store.

    Hope that helps!
