In case you have missed them, it is time to play catch up on several miles, points, and travel deals that are out there right now….

  • Really good Hilton (up to) 50% off sale: Hilton is offering a friends and family sale with up to 50% off stays between December 14 and January 7.  There are rates at the Hilton New York in NYC for just over $100, and other Hiltons that are literally in the $30 range.  This is a legit good sale, so check your travel plans and see if any of the rates/properties are helpful for you.  Thanks to View From the Wing for a head’s up on this one.
  • American Express Membership Reward 30% transfer bonus to British Airways: There is a 30% transfer bonus from American Express Membership Rewards to the British Airways Avios program until 1/14/2013.  I personally will likely sit this one out as I took advantage of some 40% and 50% transfer bonuses earlier this year, however if you are looking to use some Avios in the near future this is way better than no transfer bonus.  While there is no way to predict the future, there is usually a break of a couple months between transfer bonuses, so it is unlikely that this one will be immediately followed by another…though you never know.
  • Today is the last day to participate in the Passports With a Purpose donation/raffle where you can enter to win things like 110,000 Hyatt points: I participated last year with this organization, and hope to again in the future.  You buy virtual raffle tickets for the individual prizes at $10 a pop.  There are several BoardingArea bloggers participating, as well as lots of other travel bloggers around the internet.  The money this year goes to raise water wells in Haiti.  You can learn more by going to Loyalty Traveler’s post (he is the one that secured the 110K Hyatt points) or head straight to Passports With Purpose to purchase tickets and enter.
  • Get United Silver, Gold, Platinum, and 1K status via a charity auction: If you have suddenly realized it is the end of 2012 and you want United elite status for next year without flying for it, you can participate in a silent charity auction for 15 elite United status awards.  This silent auction is on Milepoint and up for grabs are 3x Premier 1K, 4x Premier Platinum, 4x Premier Gold, and 4x Premier Silver status awards.  You can read all the nitty gritty details about the auction here.

  1. What days are you generally finding the NY hotels that cheap. I did some searches on the Waldorf for about $200. Still a great deal but would love better.

This Hilton sale is one of the most legit hotel sales I’ve seen in recent months. It got me away from Hyatt for my upcoming 9-night work stay as there is a pretty good Hilton nearby and at $80/night with tax, I couldn’t pass this up!

Heather, saw some for WA last time I looked, but not seeing it right now so updated the post since maybe that hotel sold out of those rates. Still see rates just over $100 for select days at Hilton NY though.
CodeAdam10, really are some great deals, but some are going quickly!

I have to say a huge thank you to you and view from the wing for the heads up on the Hilton deal. I am just getting into doing this travel deals thing, and just reading your site has paid off already. We were road tripping for Christmas to Florida and stopping in Indy on the way back. As I was looking for hotels for the night I remembered your post. Got the Embasssy Suites for $59. (if only I’d remembered it for the Hampton Inn on the way down!) Then decided to book a downtown Chicago break for the coming weekend. $84 for a two queen room on the exec floor at the Palmer house Hilton. A standard room was $30 less, I think, but with two kids it is well worth it to have the breakfast and evening snacks. Thank you thank you thank you. Hope you feel better soon! This seems to be a bad year for the tummy/flu-y bug. :-(
