I have had a blast on a few “once in a lifetime” MegaDos over the past couple of years, so I am always interested when a new one is announced. Clearly they became more than once-in-a-lifetime for me, but they are cool even if you only get to do them once. Basically you load up a ton of fun loving travel junkies in a chartered plane and fly to a couple different cities to do some “behind the scenes” things on the ground, have a great time at sponsored events, and enjoy the party while in flight. They admittedly aren’t for everyone, but if you think they might be for you, then here are the details taken from this Milepoint thread on Star MegaDo 5 (as always, subject to changes and surprises).
Where? North of the border to the desert to the sea (aka Toronto, Tucson, and San Francisco)
When? October 22nd-25th
International portion? No, not this year as we’re doing the MD80 MegaDO in Scandinavia just a month before SMD5
Partners: Air Canada, Marriott, Rimowa, Star Alliance, and United
Highlights: First ever MegaDo charter on Air Canada, a new hotel partner with Marriott, the longest MegaDo flight ever at 1800 miles, and a AMARC inside tour.

I like that the program is in North America as it is a little easier for those of us with families to logistically participate in a trip like this that is a bit closer to home. The pricing is supposed to be announced early next week with booking opening on May 20th at noon central. I very much hope to be on this trip since I am a Star Alliance junkie, and I hope to see a few of you on there as well!
