Tomorrow launches the first day of five weeks of Daily Getaway travel deals.  Some will be for discounted hotel stays, discounted points purchases, car rental deals, and more.  The travel packages are provided by U.S. Travel Association, in cooperation with participating travel operators of the U.S. Travel Association and advertising support provided by American Express. To get an additional 10% off savings you must pay with any American Express card.  Daily Getaways are only open to those who are US residents ages 18 and up (though some packages are for 21+).

In doing some test searches with both types of certificates I found that they can also sometimes be used for premium room types, for example ocean-view with a balcony in Hawaii.  If you combine that ability with free breakfast for two, they can result in savings in some instances.  I tend to like the cheaper Premier certificates better, as I think it is easier to get a great deal with breakfast for two all-in for $234 with an Amex than it is on the Ultimate certificates.  However, I am sure there are some decent deals to be had at the upper levels as well.

I think that the GiftCards offer a clearer value than the free nights since it comes to basically 20% off when using an Amex card to pay.  These seem pretty easy to use and make sense for those with Marriott stays in their future.  I’m not sure I stay at Marriott hotels with enough frequency to justify buying this deal, but good luck to those who do go for it!

Both deals go on sale Monday at 1PM Eastern on the Daily Getaways website.  Will you be purchasing either deal?

  1. Hell no!!! Marriott has been devaluing their loyalty points system for the past three or four years at such a fast clip, I don’t even want to open my eyes! Their latest devaluation was introducing another category/level (or was that more than one level?) and moving a fair amount (unsure of the number anymore, but it was more than the number of hotels moving down in category/level) moving up in levels.

  2. @nickfromct – there’s probably a bunch of us who’d like to give you encouraging news. But if you really need the quick turnaround, beware of the T&Cs:

“◦Within 10-14 business days of purchase, you will receive your Marriott GiftCard(s) via U.S. mail at the shipping address provided at purchase.”

  3. These Awards are delivered in email, not US mail. Only the gift cards are deliverd in US mail. 🙂

@Treane – RC properties do accept Marriott gift card. It is written on T&C. C&P from Daily Getaways

  4. Hey, last year, weren’t some quantity open for sale like an hour before the “official” sale time? I got one of the $500 ones last year spent it for summer family travel.

  5. -No clue if the giftcards or award nights will come faster than the stated time. I wouldn’t count on it, though it is always possible.
-Bluebird should work for 10% discount.
-They aren’t doing the pre-sale an hour before this year.
-If you have concerns about a specific RC property not accepting the cards I would just pick up the phone and give them a quick call this morning before you buy.

    Good luck!

  6. I got onto the page within a couple of seconds after the hour, only to be told that all $500 and $1000 cards were already “reserved” and on hold for other purchasers. I kept refreshing, and was eventually able to buy one of each…..supposedly because some of those reserving did not follow through on their purchase. So — $1200 paid out for $1500 in Marriott buying power. Frustrating experience, but worth a half-hour of time. Next year, I’m going to try to access the site a bit earlier than the appointed time.
