I wanted to share two discounts on airline lounge access that I know about today. If you aren’t already familiar, airline lounges can be a good place to kill time during a layover with WiFi, free drinks, and free snacks. Some of them even have family rooms, and they can be a great place to get some help from agents in the event of delays/cancellations. I gotta admit that domestic airline lounges aren’t near as cool as the new Amex Centurion Lounges that I am borderline obsessed with, but they can be much, much better than nothing. Normally you can access them when traveling internationally with a business class or better ticket (or certain elite status), by having an annual membership, by being the guest of someone with a membership, or by having a one-day pass.
You can sometimes find one-day passes on eBay for a pretty good price, but if you need it sooner than that, or simply only want to deal with getting it from the original source, then several airlines will sell them at the door, or even online. It often costs around $50 to purchase a one-day pass, but American Airlines has discounted their one-day passes to $35 through tomorrow (10/24) at noon. I recently paid $50 a piece to buy two day passes for some relatives who were traveling to Europe on AA. I needed them electronically delivered right then, and it was worth the $100 to make their trip a little better….but it would have been even more worth $70 if this sale was going on then!
Here are some rules for one-day American Airlines AAdmiral’s Club Passes:
- One-Day Pass is valid up to 365 days from date of purchase
- Visitors must be 18 or older in order to purchase and/or use a One-Day Pass
- Up to 3 children under the age of 18 years of age may be admitted at no additional charge with adult One-Day Pass visitor
- Purchaser is not required to be a visitor
- Purchaser will receive printable One-Day Pass(es) for each visitor via email
US Airways is offering 5,000 elite qualifying miles + $50 discount for US Airways Club Membership.
This deal seems to be good through 10/25 using code CR500 for renewals and NM500 for new memberships. You will get 5,000 elite qualifying US Airways miles + a $50 discount on annual club membership. New memberships also get the $50 initiation fee waived. The website only displays the bonus elite qualifying miles, but this Flyertalk thread points out the discount as well for using the same codes. I joined the US Airways Club a few years ago under a similar offer and it worked just fine. You can access United Clubs with the US Airways Club membership….at least for now. A merger with American, if that comes to fruition, would change that eventually.
