Via Lucky, there is insanely good award space available right now on a new Toronto – Munich flight in Lufthansa First Class (or business class for that matter).  The route starts June 5th and he (and I) am seeing at least 8 first class award seats available on many, many days.  This doesn’t really ever happen as Lufthansa usually only releases space bookable with United miles (or other Star Alliance partners) 2 weeks out, if ever.  Here were my results when searching for four seats next summer – wide open!  And, he states it isn’t phantom space, but real bookable space.  I don’t have the time to call myself right now and try, but I trust him on this one.

You can take your family to Europe this summer in super style with this deal, but I promise it won’t last long.  It is pricey at 67,500 United miles each way, but it is going to jump to 110k United miles each way for this same award starting February 1.  Also remember you don’t have to be flying just from Toronto – Munich to cash in on this deal, that can just be one leg in a larger journey from the US to Europe, or wherever.

I have to run, so read Lucky’s full post, but wanted to make sure anyone interested saw this.  It isn’t everyday you can book your whole family to Europe during the summer in first class for a reasonable number of miles without fuel surcharges!

  1. Can you explain what you mean by you don’t have to fly just Toronto to Munich? I’d like to take advantage of this flying out of San Francisco. Also, do you book through united’s website? Thanks much,

    • Andy, highly recommend you go to Ben/Lucky’s linked post as it has tons more details than I was able to do tonight, but short answer is I could fly say Houston – Toronto – Munich (destination) then say Amsterdam – Houston home as a round trip. You could also build in stopovers if you liked. Basically, it can be one segment in a larger trip. You could also route to Asia via Europe using this.
