Just a quick note to say that December 15th (Sunday) is the last scheduled day for the current Lufthansa 50,000 mile sign-up offer via The Lufthansa Premier Miles & More World MasterCard, at least according to the terms and conditions. This offer was around one time earlier this year that I know of, but the normal sign-up bonus is often just 20,000 miles, so this is a pretty big increase over the standard offer. This card isn’t for everyone, but it can be a good deal in some circumstances.
You can use these miles to fly not just on Lufthansa, but on Star Alliance partners like United. The price for a domestic round trip ticket in the US using these miles (other than Hawaii which is 40k round trip for economy) is 25,000 miles for economy round trip or just 35,000 for business class – which equates to domestic first on United in a two cabin plane. This is a pretty great deal if you want to use miles to fly in domestic first on United since it normally would cost 50,000 United miles for that same ticket.
You can also use Lufthansa miles to fly one-way for 12,000 miles for a domestic one-way in coach, and 17,000 miles for a domestic one-way in first on a two-cabin plane.
Official offer details (bolding mine):
- Earn 20,000 award miles after your first purchase or balance transfer
- Earn an additional 30,000 award miles when you spend $5,000 in purchases within the first 90 days of account opening
- With 50,000 award miles you can redeem for a round-trip award flight to Hawaii, Europe or the Caribbean!
- Cardholders receive a Companion Ticket annually
- Enjoy 2 award miles per $1 on Miles & More integrated airline ticket purchases and 1 award mile per $1 spent everywhere else
- No mileage expiration with monthly qualifying purchases
- No foreign transaction fees
There is a $79 annual fee (though it is waived for waived for Senator and HON Circle Members). Be aware that Barclays sometimes will automatically consider you for a lesser product in the event you are not approved for the product you apply for. In this case, the terms indicate that both the Premier World or Platinum MasterCard versions of this card will get the full sign-up bonus, provided the spending requirement is met.
Be aware that you will need to book many Star Alliance partners (like United) over the phone, but they do not charge an additional fee for booking over the phone. Like I mentioned, the terms say the offer will end on December 15th. I don’t have any exact time the offer is supposed to end on the 15th, so just make sure it still says 50,000 miles on the landing page when you click on the link.
