Today I made an adjustment to a Hyatt reservation that was booked at a hotel that went from a Category 6 to a Category 7 Hyatt when the award chart changed in early January. The deadline to make changes to existing reservations at the old award chart rates is tomorrow (February 15th). I had been dreading making the call since I needed to change the date (to late January 2015, which wasn’t even available when the award chart changed), and I needed to add a night to the reservation. I know some folks have had trouble making changes that included adding nights, so I went into the call with a little bit of dread.
Fortunately for me the lady that answered the phone was very nice and laughed (in a nice way) when I explained I was trying to make one more change via the old award chart before tomorrow’s deadline.
She was able to move my reservation forward one month and add an award night without an issue in an matter of a couple of minutes. On the back end, it looks like this was accomplished by re-booking the two night stay for the new rate of 60,000 total points and then crediting the account with 16,000 points (the difference between the old rates and the new rates).
If our plans change we will still be able to cancel our reservation and get our points back, but if we want to make any adjustments to it after tomorrow we will be subject to the new award rates. Fingers crossed we are able to keep this reservation and enjoy one more trip to one of my favorite Hyatts at the old points rate next ski season!
If you have any changes to make to existing reservations that got more expensive on points, then I recommend going ahead and making the call. You may or may not have as easy of a time as I did, but it is still absolutely possible to make some changes including moving dates and adding nights.
