I’ve never been an April Fool’s fan – a day where you are supposed to waste people’s time tricking them?  Seriously?  Ain’t nobody got time for that!  Needless to say I’ve been on the lookout today for deals that are too good to be true, and mostly so far I have just seen some that were relatively funny.

The good news for those who like deals but don’t have time to be fooled is that there are some decent travel related deals out today that I wanted to share.

RocketMiles 500 Bonus Miles or Stay in Barbie Malibu Dream Home:

RocketMiles (my link) had a relatively funny April Fools listing for nights in places like a Barbie Dream Home or the BatVan (though I’m not seeing those listings up right now).  Obviously those weren’t real, but if you book a stay at a real hotel today via that promo you get an extra 500 miles.  This is on top of the thousands of miles that you normally get for RocketMiles stays.

14% Off Frontier Flights:

Frontier Airlines will offer a 14% discount on domestic fares from Tuesday, April 1, 2014, through 11:59 p.m. Eastern time, Thursday, April 3, 2014. The discount will apply to regular and sale fares for domestic travel through June 12, 2014, for flights operating Monday through Thursday and Saturdays. All fare rules will apply.

Frontier No Foolin

Tickets must be purchased below using the promo code NOFOOLIN. No exceptions will be made.

Lots of Statement Credits Available via Amex Sync:

American Express has been doing a pretty cool thing for a while now called Sync where you can register your Amex cards for lots of cool offers that can result in some cash saved.  If you register your card for a particular offer and then spend the minimum required, you trigger a statement credit to your Amex.  The offers change frequently, but here are some out today:

  • Lowe’s: Spend $50+, get a $10 statement credit. Expires 5/31/2014.  Tweet: #AmexLowes
  • BP: Spend $30+, get a $5 statement credit. Expires 5/31/2014.  Tweet: #AmexBP
  • Hampton Inn: Spend $150+, get a $25 statement credit. Expires 5/31/2014. Tweet: #AmexHampton

You can head here to look at some more of the deals or keep tabs on Deals We Like as she is great about sharing news of the Amex Sync offers.

50% Cole Haan Bags and Wallets:

I know I am probably the only one who cares about this one, but my husband has been on the lookout to upgrade the bag he schleps his laptop and related gadgets around in when he travels, and we both have had good experience with Cole Haan.  Yeah, they’re kinda pricey, but 50% off all bags and wallets can make them substantially less pricey – especially if you are stacking this on an already reduced sale price with code NOJOKE.

Vanilla Reloads Still Working for Many…For Now:

Last but not least, word on the internet is that many of our favorite pharmacy stores are still selling Vanilla Reloads to those paying via credit card, but that more stores may stop doing that in the coming days.  The March 31st deadline was not nationwide, but the policy does still seem to be spreading, so don’t take for granted that your store is permanently safe if they are still accepting credit cards today.  Hopefully it won’t become truly nationwide, but don’t waste time if you know you are in the market for some reloads in the short run.

Comments

  1. MP – where do you see the Cole Haan discount? Or where do you go to apply the code – maybe that’s a better questions.

I need a laptop bag, and I have a big laptop (monster one, got everything but heavy like a ton of brick). I carry it in an Eddie Bauer First Ascent bag, that looks more like a gym bag … LOL.

  2. Solidly confirmed that the pharmacy ban on VR cc purchases is indeed nationwide. The national deadline is 4/4, although many locations are already inoperative.
Word is though, that if the first place you check doesn’t work anymore, that doesn’t mean another one 2 miles way won’t still work. It’s hit or miss right now.

If you find a place that still works, get as many as you can right away; a few days from now they will cash only everywhere.

  3. Bob, there is a promo code box after you enter your address while checking out. I saw the deal via an email they sent out, but it’s also on their home page.
    Robert Hanson, such a bummer!
