Hyatt Changes Best Rate Guarantee Process to Online Form

A relatively well kept secret is that many major hotel chains will give you a discount, free points, or even a free night if you find a lower price for a room somewhere other than their website, and have them match it via a “Best Rate Guarantee” claim.  Each hotel handles this process differently, and there are a good number of caveats, but it can result in big savings or even free hotel nights if you do good enough detective work and have a little luck on your side.  Check out this post I wrote last year if you are not familiar with Best Rate Guarantees. 

Hyatt is one of the hotel chains with a “Best Rate Guarantee” policy and they will give you a 20% discount on the lower rate you find within 24 hours of your original Hyatt booking made on Hyatt.com, but it seems the process to make the claim with Hyatt just changed a bit.  As was posted on Flyertalk, there is now an online form for the Best Rate Guarantee claim, as opposed to the previous process that included making a phone call to Hyatt.  I don’t like making more phone calls than I have to, but it was super handy to be able to have the rate you found verified and adjusted on the spot, instead of hoping someone checks your claim before the rate you found on another hotel site disappears.

The Best Rate Guarantee terms indicate that “a Hyatt.com representative will review your claim and respond with the status of your claim within 24 hours”, so hopefully they will move quickly enough to verify most of the lower rates you find.

Some of the terms of the best rate guarantee include:

  • The rate must be for the same hotel, type of accommodations, room type and bed type, as well as the same dates and number of guests. The lower rate must meet the Terms and Conditions to qualify for the Best Rate Guarantee.”
  • If you find a publicly available and immediately bookable room-only rate on the Internet for a Hyatt hotel (“Competing Rate”) that is lower than the room rate available for the same reservation on http://www.hyatt.com (i.e., same hotel, same type of room, same number of guests, same dates of stay and same length of stay), then prior to or within 24 hours of booking the reservation on http://www.hyatt.com, please submit your claim request online via our online claim form.
  • If Hyatt confirms the availability of the Competing Rate on the Internet, subject to room availability at the applicable Hyatt hotel, Hyatt agrees to match the Competing Rate for the same reservation, plus discount an additional twenty percent (20%) off the room rate for the duration of the stay being so reserved.
  • If you have already booked a prepaid stay on Hyatt.com, and find a Competing Rate that meets these terms and conditions set forth here, then Hyatt will refund the full amount originally charged to your credit card for the rate booked on Hyatt.com and charge your credit card for the full stay based on the new rate.

If you use the Hyatt Best Rate Guarantee claim process, just be aware it has now changed a bit and moved off the phone and onto the internet.
