This won’t be earth shattering for most (or potentially any) of you, but it was just recently announced that there will be a new Westin hotel built in The Woodlands. This is of interest to me as it is very much in my neck of the woods (pardon the pun), and an area that really has been playing catch-up with demand for hotel rooms. There is currently a big Marriott property (too big for me) in the area, as well as a very nice smaller Hyatt property. I have had very good stays at the Hyatt on the pretty rare occasion that we indulge in a hotel night close to home, but there is a real shortage of upscale rooms in the area.
Westin The Woodlands (not sure if that is the official name) is said to be scheduled to open at the end of 2015 in Waterway Square in The Woodlands. It will have just over 300 rooms, an outdoor pool, meeting space, direct access to Waterway Square, and a pedestrian bridge spanning the waterway.
The Woodlands is only about 20 minutes from IAH, and if you are ever in from out of town to catch a performance at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion or similar, I would recommend just booking a hotel room for the night in the area as opposed to shuffling back and forth into Houston.
Even though I don’t personally need hotel rooms in the area very frequently, I’m still happy to see some of the hotel brands that I know and love expand into the area we call home. If I were to wager a guess, I’d bet this property rings in as category 4, or potentially even try a stretch to a 5. Hopefully it will just be a 4 like the Westin in Austin and nearby Hyatt Market Street, but rates in this area have been a bit on the high side thanks to the local oil busine$$es and relatively low supply of hotel rooms, so I wouldn’t be shocked to see it as a 5.
