Last week I hosted a long overdue gathering of miles and points junkies in Houston area at a fire station at IAH. Any gathering of like minded friends is a good one, but this was particularly fun thanks to some of the cool things we were able to do at the fire station.
We started with dinner prepared by the fire fighters (an auction item I had won at a fundraiser), and of course you could probably guess the topic of discussion at the dinner table. You got it, we shared stories of travels taken, travels to come, and a little miles and points mixed in. I think there is a bunch of value in being able to talk about deals, flights, routes, and other similar topics that are geographically accessible to everyone at the same event.
After dinner the real fire station fun began as we were able to check out some of the tools and gadgets at the fire station. Whether you are a kid or an adult, there is nothing cooler than fire station trucks and gear! Bonus points if you get to play with fire station gear while wearing a super hero cape!
Oh, and seeing the planes take off on the runway right across from you was pretty awesome, too.
This event was publicized on Twitter feed, but intentionally kept very small due to the number the fire station could easily accommodate. I plan to host something in the Houston area a little bit larger this fall so we can all keep visiting and sharing travel stories and miles and points tips!
If you want in on the next Houston area event feel free to let me know on the comments section of this post and I’ll be sure to shoot you an email next time around. Also follow me on Twitter @Mommy_Points as I’m sure I’ll spread the word there as well.
Thanks to everyone who came out to make the event a very fun and family friendly night!
