The Chase Freedom® credit card is one of my absolute favorite rewards credit cards as it has no annual fee, but still earns 5x points in rotating quarterly “family friendly” categories such as restaurants, gas stations, and more. Yesterday I posted that the deadline was upon us to register for the third quarter bonus categories and now today you have the opportunity to activate the fourth quarter bonus categories of Amazon.com, Zappos.com, and select department stores.

Freedom bonus

I strongly encourage you to activate the bonus now as it is so easy to let stuff like that slip your mind and then miss out on 5x bonus points.  For Santa parents, this quarter’s bonus will come in handy as I know lots of us do our holiday shopping on Amazon.com.  For your planning purposes, the select department stores included are:

Sears, JCPenney, Macy’s Kohl’s, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Off Fifth, Sam Moon, Dillard’s, Bealls, and more.  You can view a full list here.

Also note the exclusions such as Target, Walmart, Membership Warehouses, electronics stores, and more.

Maximizing the Points Your Freedom Earns:

The points earned via the Freedom are worth one cent each toward cash back or gift cards unless you also have a card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card in which case you can transfer the points earned on the Freedom to hotel and airline partners such as United, Hyatt, Southwest, British Airways, Marriott, Singapore Airlines, and more – which is how I like to spend them as I get closer to two cents per value for each point on travel.

No matter how you spend your points, take the few seconds to activate the fourth quarter bonuses today.  They will kick in on October 1st.

  1. This is a great bonus and one that I’ll take advantage of surely. One other tip is that you can always have 5x at Amazon by using your Ink card to buy Amazon gift cards at office supply stores (though it’s definitely more annoying to deal with gift cards than just getting it straight up on purchases)

  2. Although Amazon payments is coming to a close, there is still a small window in October to make a cash payment. I expect that the answer is no, but I still have to ask. Would an Amazon cash payment to someone, using the Chase freedom card earn the 5 pts/$ bonus?
