I don’t know who is in charge of selecting retailer payouts on some of the online mileage shopping portals this week, but I think they deserve a raise, or at least a big thumbs up.  This has been the very best week of online shopping portal payouts in a long time at retailers that some of us actually care about…hello, 10x miles Boden!

These increased payouts have been lasting on average a couple of days each, so pull the trigger quickly if you have something you have been meaning to buy.  Personally I am scooping up some summer clearance items to stash for next year for my kiddo, and getting a jump on some holiday purchases and gift cards in hopes to “double dip”.

As always, if you are buying something just because of the miles you are probably coming out on the losing end (unless of course you are in the merchandise or gift card reselling business…).

If you are new to online shopping portals:

If you are new to racking up miles by shopping online via shopping portals then know that doing your online shopping via a shopping portal is an insanely easy way to really rack up miles for purchases you were going to make anyway.  It is one extra step to go from a portal like the American AAdvantage eShopping portal to get to the retailer websites you know and love, but it is a step that can earn you thousands of extra miles each year!

The numbers above show above indicate how many extra points or miles you will earn for your purchase.  For example, if you buy something for $100 from a portal that is paying out at that retailer for 12x then you will get 1200 extra miles or points for that purchase on top of the ones that you earn for using your rewards credit card.  It can take a purchase that would have only earned a handful of points on a credit card to one that earns a significant number thanks to using an online portal.  You can use www.cashbackmonitor.com or www.evreward.com to compare payouts in various portals (though I would do some manual checks for large purchases).

You can often stack coupon codes, free shipping, or in-store pick-up on top of the points or miles earned for shopping through a portal, but that isn’t always the case.  I recommend getting the best deal possible for an item first, and then worry about the miles and points second.  Usually you can do both at the same time.

    • I was using them a lot to ck – but also noticed they weren’t always accurate. Wish there was a reliable/easy way to ck all the promotions going on. I always feel like I’m missing out on a deal 🙂

    • sw, I check individually. I have found that these short-lived increases often don’t make it to the sites like evreward and similar.

  1. I’m needing a new briefcase and notice ebags has 15pts/$ in the URmall…have you ever seen it higher? Wondering if I should wait – or if 15pts is good. I used these malls to buy staples like dog food every month. Sites normally give free shipping so it’s a no brainer 🙂
