Learning about miles and points on the internet is a great and easy way for even busy families to learn about deals and opportunities at their own pace. That’s all that many will ever need to earn and use miles and points to take your family to places near or far. However, some people want to take that a step further and learn more in-depth information in-person in a short amount of time. For those with that desire there are several in-person miles and points seminars available
I have attended or presented at multiple different miles and points weekend conferences, and have found them to be a good way to get over the hump of being a well rounded beginner point aficionado to a savvy intermediate or higher mileage junkie in a weekend. They can also be a good way to go from a bright-eyed beginner to a wide-eyed intermediate in a hurry. In recent times there have even been advanced sessions introduced for those looking to hone their skills even further by learning additional tips and opportunities.
The real trick is aligning the sessions you attend with your actual needs and interests. For example, if you have been at this for a couple of years I would not go to a beginner miles and points session. Alternatively, if you are brand new don’t go to an advanced session and expect to know exactly what they are talking about.
Most of the information shared can be found online, but getting it laid out to you in-person while you just sit in the chair and soak it in is appealing for some people. The connections you can make with others with the same miles and points hobby can also be fun and valuable. In case you are interested in one of these opportunities, here are some different seminars that are coming up.
Chicago Seminars: October 17 – 19, 2014
$99 for the weekend, but sold out and past the ticket transfer deadline (I think)
This event is sold out, but I am mentioning it as it has been an annual thing for several years now, so hopefully will occur again around the same time in October 2015. Also, if you already have tickets to attend and are bringing a +1 then let me know if I can help keep them entertained at a “+1 reception” on that Saturday from 4:00 – 5:15 while you are learning more tips in other sessions.
We did the +1 reception with snacks and drinks near the hotel pool last year and it was really fun. We do keep this small, so let me know if your +1 wants to attend! Send an email to info at mommypoints.com and we’ll get you added to that session.
Frequent Traveler University Washington DC: December 5 – 7, 2014

More to come:
I can’t officially share information about other events not yet publicly announced, but know that there are other events in 2015 that are not yet on the official calendar. These different types of seminars seem to only be increasing in frequency and they move around to different locations, so hopefully one will come to a location convenient for you if you want to attend an in-person miles and points event!
If you have questions about any of these events let me know and I’ll do my best to answer or get you answers. I’ll be attending and presenting at the Chicago Seminars and FTU Washington DC events, and hope to see some of you there!
