Until the end of the holiday shopping season, I’ll be keeping an even closer eye on shopping portal bonuses.  Both because there are typically more of them available this time of year, and because many of us are shopping online and spending more in advance of the gift giving madness.  Spending money stinks, but getting more for money you were going to spend anyway makes it a bit better.

Up To 2,100 Alaska Mileage Plan Shopping Bonus Miles:

From November 3 – November 21, 2014, earn up to 2,100 bonus Alaska Airlines miles via the Mileage Plan Shopping portal.  These bonus miles are on top of the regular mileage payouts in the portal, and the miles or points you earn on your rewards earning credit card. Bonus miles are based on cumulative eligible spending in the portal.

Alaska Bonus Miles

700 bonus miles for $100 in cumulative purchases

1,400 bonus miles for $200 in cumulative purchases

2,100 bonus miles for $300 in cumulative purchases

That is an extra 7x per dollar if you spend exactly $100, $200, or $300, which is really very good for a bonus.  This stacks with portal payouts such as Sears.com which is currently 8x per dollar.  So, you could earn 8x per dollar via Sears purchases through the portal, 5x points for purchases at department stores this quarter via the Chase Freedom®, and up to 7x bonus via the promo mentioned above for a total of 20x.  Assuming you spent $100 at Sears.com that is 2,200 miles and points for that one purchase.  That can really add up over the course of a holiday shopping season.

Of course, you can amp that earning up even more by “double dipping” and both buying and using a Sears e-gift card via the portal, and Frequent Miler alludes to a way to get that all the way up to a potential 35x per dollar.

United MileagePlus Shopping Temporarily Increased Payouts:

United currently does not have a bonus miles promo, but they did have a few retailers currently paying out higher than average mileage amounts.

Pottery Barn 3x

Earn Up To 1,200 Bonus Southwest Rapid Reward Points:

From November 1, 2014 at 12:01 AM – November 23, 2014 you can receive a one-time bonus of up to 1,200 bonus Rapid Reward points in addition to the standard points earned from Rapid Rewards Shopping. Bonus points will be issued based on cumulative spending:

Rapid Rewards Bonus Miles

300 bonus points for $175 in cumulative purchases

600 bonus points for $350 in cumulative purchases

900 bonus points for $525 in cumulative purchases

1,200 bonus points for $700 or more in cumulative purchases

American Airlines eShopping Targeted Bonuses:

American Airlines eShopping Portal is offering some targeted mileage bonuses, including the one I received for 500 bonus miles with $75 in cumulative purchases from 11/1/14 to 11/10/14.  Check your email from Sunday for something with the subject line that starts with “Today Only:” to see if you were targeted for some bonus miles (the “today only” is in relation to another bonus, not the targeted extra miles)

In addition, there are some limited time increased payouts in the portal available to everyone including:

UGG 8x

Wayfair 4x

Let me know if you see any other good payouts and I’ll be sure to share them!

    • Pam, you are right. Basic math must have been failing me this morning. It is 20x that way. 28x (or potentially higher) if you double dip with Sears gift cards. Updated and apologies!

  1. “This stacks with portal payouts such as Sears.com which is currently 8x per dollar.”–when I log into the portal, it lists sears.com as 3x–did I miss anything?

    • Max, Sears was 8x yesterday in the Alaska portal when the post was launched, but it might have already have changed today (Tuesday). These things can move quickly!

  2. Are you saying that I can go to sears.com through Alaska’s shopping portal and use my Freedom card, and I will still get the shopping portal bonus even if I do not use my Alaska Visa card?
