Once you have miles, points, and deals engrained into how you think and buy, it becomes easier to spot good opportunities that present themselves.  One Mommy Points reader emailed me details about an opportunity for those near a Thornton’s convenience store during the month of November.  The Thornton’s website isn’t working for me right now, but here is a map of Thornton’s locations that the awesome reader sent (thanks, Sam!).

Thornton Store Locations

During November, Thornton’s is offering 20% off all of their third party gift cards, gaming cards, and iTunes.

Thornton 20 Gift Cards

The gift card rack was pretty small at the Thornton’s Sam visited, but it did have $25 Amazon gift cards.  This means you can buy those and then use them to get other gift cards, or pretty much anything your heart desires from Amazon once you load the gift cards to your Amazon account.

Thornton Gift Card RackNaturally you will want to buy these gift cards with a rewards earning credit card to not only save money but earn extra rewards – especially if you have a card that earns a bonus at gas stations!  Sam had a 50% success rate at being allowed to use a credit card to buy gift cards, so it is possible you will hit a Thornton’s that does not take credit cards for gift card purchases.

Being able to save 20% on Amazon purchases is pretty great all by itself, and even greater if you are earning bonus miles or points in the process by paying with a rewards earning credit card.

  1. One big problem here is that Amazon Giftcard cannot be used to buy other gift cards at Amazon.com.

If you were referring other ways to buy non-Amazon Giftcard with Amazon Giftcard, please let me know how. Thanks,

  2. Thanks for posting this! I never would have known if not for this post. I went to two Thorntons in Jeffersonville, Indiana and although there was no signage whatsoever indicating the discount, gift cards did ring up 20% off at both stores and I was able to pay via credit card. Selection was pretty much the same as in Sam’s photo, although one store was out of amazon gift cards. Thanks again to you and Sam!
