Most of the major hotel chains have revealed their early 2015 bonus point promotions, and while many have been relatively lack-luster so far, Club Carlson is actually a real stand-out with their “Extend Your Stay, Earn 30K Points” promo.

Here are the details for the pretty lucrative promo:

  • Earn 15,000 bonus Club Carlson points for eligible stays of two nights or longer
  • Earn 30,000 bonus Club Carlson points for eligible stays of three nights or longer
  • Stays or nights paid for by redeeming Gold Points or by using Points + Cash are not eligible for this promotion.
  • Registration must be received before checkout of the first eligible stay to qualify.

Some Club Carlson members also got emails that they will receive an additional 10,000 bonus points on their first eligible stay of two nights or longer during the promotion.  Look for an email with the subject line “Early access to our new promotion” to see if you were included in that portion of the promotion.

Let me put some math to this promotion to highlight why I think it is a stand-out above the other promotions.  Let’s assume that you are staying at a Club Carlson hotel that has a $100 average daily rate (and there are plenty that are going to rank in much lower than that).  Let’s also assume that you have a Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card since you absolutely should have that card if you are going to care about Club Carlson points.  Having that card also gives you instant Club Carlson Gold status, which I will factor into the equation below.

There are inexpensive Club Carlson properties

There are inexpensive Club Carlson properties

Three nights x $100/night = $300

$300 x 20 Club Carlson points per dollar = 6,000 points

+35% Gold Elite bonus of 2,100 points

$300 x 10 Club Carlson points per dollar for paying with Club Carlson Visa Signature = 3,000 points

+30,000 bonus points from promo

+10,000 bonus points from “early access” targeted email (if applicable)

That’s a potential total of 51,100 points via a three night stay with the Earn 30k Points Promo.  That sounds like an impressive total, and it is.  That is enough points for an award night at many Club Carlson hotels around the world including Radisson Martinique on Broadway in NYC, Radisson Aruba Resort Casino & Spa, Radisson Blu Hotel Amsterdam, Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Oslo, Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Sydney, Radisson Blu Trysil Ski Resort, or Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London.

With the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card 50,000 points is actually enough for two nights at any of those properties since this last award night is free with the card.  So, for $300 (or less in many situations), you could have enough points for two nights at properties that can easily run $300USD or more per night.  That may or may not be mattress run worthy for you, but it is certainly worth giving Club Carlson preference for a qualifying stay this winter if you have the opportunity!

  1. Hi MP! I got the early access email with the bonus 10k, but do you need to click on the link in that email to get the bonus 10k? I had registered via another link, not knowing about the early access email link.

    Thanks!

  2. My husband travels a lot for work and usually stays in Marriott. I think the CC promotion is so good that I’ve asked him to switch and stay in Radisson’s for the the next 3 months (he is not thrilled). Would. You advise we apply for the CC card now in order to get the add’l points? Thanks.

    • Stacy, it will help you earn a bit more for sure, but you just really want to be sure to have it by the time you redeem to get the last award night free.

    • stacy, i’d recommend getting the card ahead of time for two reasons – first, though it may be minor compared to the promotion’s bonus points, as mp pointed out you will earn thousands of extra points by paying for those stays with the club carlson card.

second, to help ease your husband’s transition, if he is the one to get the credit card, it will bump him up to having gold status for his stays. based on your comments and his reaction, i assume he doesn’t stay there much now to have status.

    • Karen, in terms of earning, no, because you need to be on a paid rate and the last night is free on award stays.

  3. I need to book three hotel rooms for the same dates. Do you think I would get the bonus 30,000 miles three times or just once?

    • best to check with carlson directly, but typically hotels only give this sort of bonus once per stay, even when multiple rooms are booked. they will typically be able to put together the three rooms if you book them all in your name.

BUT – if someone you are close enough with is going along (significant other, older children, parents, best friend, etc), you can sign them up for their own account and put one of the rooms under their name/account.

  4. I noticed that some properties mention their rate earns Gold Points while other properties make no mention of Gold Points under the rate details. Does an eligible stay have to be one where Gold Points are shown under the rate details for this promotion to work?

  5. So Mom,
If I’m reading this correctly it can be the same hotel, just stay 2 nights consecutive = 15,000K. I did get the email, so that is another 10K bringing me to 25K. Plus all the extras for using the card, etc.

Agree with my first point? Am I correct?

  6. I noticed when I registered it says the promo is good at participating hotels. Is there a list of participating hotels? Or is it safe to assume all of them are participating?

  7. MommyPoints, I just wanted to say thank you for your highlighting this promotion. I signed up for the offer right when I got it, as I often do. I was also targeted for the additional 10,000 point promo. Because of this offer and the fact that we did not use points to book our room on our recent vacation, for the price of $450 or so, we had 4 nights in a hotel just across the street from the beach. That is a good deal JUST for the hotel room. But because we didn’t use points and due to this promotion, we effectively had a 130,000+ Club Carlson Gold Points swing. The points chaser in me looks at the end result like this…We got a “free” hotel room for 4 nights and bought over 130,000 points for $450.
