In keeping with the promise to mention especially good airfares when I see them (especially from Texas since those catch my eye quickest), this morning there are $483 round trip tickets from Dallas to Honolulu on Delta available for a wide range of dates.  These will not last long.  That is much lower than the common price of around $800 RT from Texas to Hawaii.

This fare may not work well for families tied to a school schedule looking for a summer or spring break trip, as they don’t work from mid-March to mid-April and from late May to late August (though if your spring break is a little earlier or later than normal it may work, departures March 12th work).  It can also work for an extended weekend, or certainly for folks who are able to go outside the traditional school breaks.

Pay attention to the routing you select, as you probably don’t want to go through Atlanta to get to Honolulu from Texas.  Instead I would look for LAX or SLC connections.  The fares I am pricing are in X fare class which means they will earn 50% flown miles if credited to Alaska Airlines, which is what I would personally recommend unless you are chasing MQMs (elite status) on Delta since they are now revenue based for mileage earning, and a general member would only earn around 2,000 miles for the trip (5 miles per eligible dollar) whereas you would earn around 4,000 by crediting to Alaska at 50% of flown miles credited.

  1. Didn’t play with it too much, but seeing $447 on F9/HA combo and $550 on DL DEN-HNL RT with lots of dates. Could be a start of a interesting day….

    • MSPDeltaDude, I didn’t want to put that thought into the post for fear of jinxing it, but I sure do hope so. I love me some island fare wars…
