Most major hotel chains offer periodic bonuses to customers where if you meet certain stay requirements you can earn bonus points or bonus free nights. Those promotions can range from insanely lucrative to pretty boring, but better than nothing. I know many, many travelers who absolutely shift their hotel loyalty around based on who is offering the promotion bested aligned to meet their travel patterns and redemption goals.
In recent years we have seen these promotions go from being almost exclusively global promotions that are open to anyone who wants to register, to a larger number of targeted promotions that are either only available to specific customers, or the exact offer varies from customer to customer. In theory, this is good as your offer can be aligned with your travel patterns, but in reality that means that we aren’t all going to get access to the best version of the offer. In the age of the internet, it also means some customers are going to be ticked off because they know there are sometimes more lucrative offers being given to others.
Hilton HHonors has been one of the very most consistent programs when it comes to offering a global quarterly bonus promotion. However, they are now changing things up and making a move to more targeted offers for half of the year.
Per this Flyertalk post by a HHonors rep, HHonors is moving away from offering quarterly bonus points promotions, and will instead drop to just two global points promotions per year. This will be supplemented with targeted offers “based on the level of activity within the HHonors program”.
We’ll now have two global bonus promotions (what are typically referred to as our quarterly promotions) throughout the year instead of four. But, the remainder of the time, engaged members like you will receive some very cool targeted offers based on your level of activity within the HHonors program. This tailored approach will allow us to reward our members with the most relevant offers based on their travel behaviors and needs, which will ultimately help you get to your next free night faster. In addition, all of our hotels will be participating in these targeted offers, which we know is a top priority for you!
One more new update – we’re working on a new feature that will allow you to login to your HHonors account and view all the targeted offers and promotions that we’re running just for you. It’ll help identify ways to take advantage of your HHonors membership by earning and maximizing your Points so you can get out and play! You should see this new feature in your HHonors account later this year, and I will be sure to keep you posted on specific timing around its launch.
The next official global bonus promotion will start March 1, 2015, and I will have more details to share at the end of February. Once the next global bonus promotion begins on March 1 and the targeted offers are rolled out, there will always be a bonus offer that you can take advantage of throughout the year. The current global promotion ends tomorrow, January 31st, and the next global promotion will run from March 1, 2015 – May 31, 2015. This means there will be no global promotion in February, so if you want to earn some bonus hotel points, it may be time to shop for other hotel chains and promos.
