Good news – the IHG PointBreaks preview list is getting updated tomorrow, Tuesday!  PointBreaks are one of the very best deals in the miles and points world at just 5,000 IHG points per night for a hotel room that can other times go for 10,000 – 50,000 points per night!

You never know what properties might show up on the list, so it is a bit of a fingers-crossed-waiting-game until the list comes out as hope that a property will be available in a spot that is on your upcoming travel list.

A IHG rep let me know that the real PointBreaks preview list will be available tomorrow (Tuesday), but they shared a brief preview of a few of the properties that will be on the list.  The properties on the list will be available for bookings and stays from February 25 (Wednesday) – May 31, 2015 include:

  • InterContinental Lhasa Paradise, Lhasa, XZ, China
  • Crowne Plaza Suites Tequendama Bogota, Colombia
  • Hotel Indigo San Jose Forum Costa Rica
  • Holiday Inn Genoa City, Genova, Italy
  • Holiday Inn Express Tampa-Anderson Rd/Veterans Exp, Florida, United States
  • Staybridge Suites West Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
  • Candlewood Suites Bloomington, Indiana, United States
IHG Point Breaks 2015

InterContinental Lhasa Paradise, normally 35k points per night

Usually most of the properties on the list in the United States are Holiday Inn Express or Candlewood Suites properties that aren’t exactly in tourist hotbed cities.  However, you never know when there will be a gem of a property available, or one that is exactly where you are headed.  Booking Crowne Plaza and Intercontinental properties like some of these for just 5,000 points per night is insane.

As you get ready for the list to go live for booking on Wednesday, remember that if you already have some points in your account, you can also “buy” additional points at a cost of $0.007 each (for a total of about $35 per Point Breaks night) – check out this post by Million Mile Secrets for details on that method of obtaining IHG Rewards points.  The IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card and the 70,000 point sign-up bonus after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months is also a great way to build up points for future PointBreak lists.

There is no exact time that the list goes live for booking, but it is usually in the morning somewhere between 8AM – 10AM Central.  Typically the properties are available for booking before the list is actually live, so I will be sure to update as soon as I notice the properties available for just 5,000 points each!  This Flyertalk forum also keeps a close eye on the list, so they are a great resource as well.

  1. Actually, you can book more than two nights. You can only have two BOOKINGS per hotel during the pointbreaks period, but each booking can have as many nights as you’d like.
