We are now in the fourth of five weeks of Daily Getaway deals with a new deal going on sale each weekday at 1PM Eastern through April 22nd.  The deals are all travel related, and will vary daily from blocks of points, to car rental certificates, to hotel packages, to theme park tickets, and more.  The quantity on some offerings is very limited (6 – 50 packages), while other offers have thousands of packages available.  I highly recommend you pay particular attention to the quantity available for the packages you are interested in because some of the limited quantity offers (a few hundred or less) can sell out very, very quickly and you may end up empty handed and frustrated with those offers.

If you really want one with limited quantity, you should still absolutely go for it, but just do so with tempered expectations.  Be sure to keep hitting refresh in the minutes leading up to 1PM Eastern and hit “buy” the second they become available.  It is sometimes possible to get a package after it expires from someone else’s cart, so you can keep trying until the offer officially says sold out 10 – 15 minutes later, just remember to only do this if it won’t dramatically interrupt your day or leave you too frustrated.

The packages with thousands available such as the IHG points, Alamo rental car certificates, and Choice Hotel points should be much easier to get than the Hyatt, Hertz, or Club Carlson points.

I plan to post a summary of each week’s deals before they go on sale.  I no longer think it’s necessary to do a post on each day’s deals as they have been pretty much the same for years and many people now post about them, but I am happy to expand on any particular deal you may have questions on.  I also highly recommend reading all terms and conditions carefully directly on the site for any deals you are interested in since this is just a summary.

In years past you got 10% off when paying with an American Express card, but that is no longer the case.  Reports have been that the packages code as travel for the purposes of redeeming Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite MasterCard® points.

You can view all five weeks of Daily Getaway offers here, but below is a breakdown of Week 4 offers.

Deal or No Deal?

First, in order for this to be a deal for your family of four you need to be sure you want a Universal Orlando vacation in the next 12 months.  Not only that, but you have to want either several days at Universal Orlando or have a large group and really want the VIP behind-the scenes access.  I’m actually going to skip talking about the VIP package as there is only one available and I think you either know you are a perfect fit for it, or you aren’t.  Most of us probably aren’t.

The package that includes four three day tickets is pretty good based on comparing that price to other available tickets online.  The best price I can find for 4 three-day tickets outside of this deal is still about $75 – $100 more expensive all-in, so if you are certain you need four adult 3 day tickets in the next 12 months then this is probably a good time to buy.

The vacation package that includes 3-day tickets for four, hotel, and airfare can also be a pretty good deal depending on your situation.  If you don’t want to muck with using miles and points to piece together an Orlando vacation (and if you do, you should check out my e-book on that exact topic here), then being able to pay $2,472 and be totally covered for your hotel, airfare, ground transportation, and theme park tickets for a family of four isn’t bad, especially if you live somewhere that you know that airline tickets to/from the Orlando area are relatively pricey.  For example, say you live in Alaska or Hawaii and want to go to Universal in Orlando…I’m betting that this is by far one of the most cost-effective ways of doing so.

Deal or No Deal?

As with all the Vegas packages, there are deals to be had if you were going to purchase the majority of the package components anyway.  Additionally, if your visit to Vegas was going to be on nights that are typically more expensive for hotel rooms (say a weekend in the fall) then the package is a better deal than when rooms are crazy cheap (say a weekday in July).  Of course, you can’t be going on a blackout date, but other than that you have to gauge historic prices for your preferred dates to know how much value there is to be had out of the hotel portion of your package.

Given all of that, I think some of these can be good deals.  For example, my personal favorite may be the package that lets you pick your resort for two nights for $425 all-in.  That amount covers room for two nights (including taxes and resort fees), $100 in dining, $150 at the spa, limo to/from, and in-room champagne.  If you would have spent that money at the spa and restaurants anyway, you value the limo at $40 ($20 each way), then you are left with essentially paying $67.50/night all-in for two nights at very nice properties such as Caesar’s.  You won’t beat that price anywhere considering how much taxes and resort fees are, but you have to actually want all the package inclusions for that to be a good deal.

Wednesday April 15th

Packages of Hertz Points

5,500 Hertz points – $252 (45 available) 4.58 cents per point

13,200 Hertz points – $428 (35 available) 3.24 cents per point

16,500 Hertz points – $698 (50 available) 4.23 cents per point

  • Only 1 set of points may be purchased for this offer per Hertz member. Up to 3 sets of points may be purchased in total for any Hertz offer in this promotion per customer/account number. If more than 3 sets are purchased in total, then the first 3 sets purchased will be credited only.
  • Points do not expire as long as member has any Hertz Gold Plus Rewards® program activity in the prior 24 months.
  • Before purchasing the points, you must have a Hertz Gold Plus Rewards® member number. If you’re not already a member, you can sign up today for free. Once you complete a member profile, you’ll get a member number immediately.

Deal or No Deal?

In years past I have tried (and failed) to purchase Hertz points via the Daily Getaways as their points can be very valuable when you need to rent a car and rates are high.  Totally ignore how these packages are marketed as you can use the points for rentals however you want starting at 550 points for a one-day weekend rental.  I have saved a ton using Hertz points for SUV rentals during ski season in Colorado and historically have been a big fan.  However, in the last year or so I have personally had a much harder time using Hertz points.  I don’t know if that is just very bad luck on my part, or representative of a larger change, but I personally won’t even be trying to buy points this year.  Realistically that doesn’t really matter because the total number of package available is so low it will be a virtual lottery just like the Hyatt points were last week.  Obviously the $428 package is the best from a cost-per-point perspective, but luck will probably have to be on your side to nab any of the packages if demand is similar to previous years.

Thursday April 16th

SeaWorld Tickets – $49 (1,540 available)

Deal or No Deal?

If you just want a one-day adult ticket to one of these parks by April 16, 2016, then this deal is pretty solid since one-day tickets are often $80 – $90 otherwise.  If you want to go for more than one day, are eligible for discounts or free tickets through military or teaching channels, etc. then I would hold off since there are better avenues for deals in some of those situations.  Also keep in mind that many experiences at SeaWorld, like Aquatica, cost extra so factor that into your overall decision making.

Friday April 17th

Deal or No Deal?

Well, this is an obvious deal if you are certain you have Marriott expenses in your future.  Since the eGiftCards do not expire, your only hesitation should be making sure you want to keep up with using the gift card.  I don’t frequent Marriott hotels, but if I did this would be a no-brainer since it keeps cash in your pocket.

Comments

  1. deal is not worth it if you plan on multi-day visits to sea world san diego. they are currently running a promo for buy 1 ticket get the rest of the year free. you could just buy one even if you don’t go now, but plan on going at least twice the rest of the year

  2. These deals are not refundable. What to do if you bought Studios tickets and are stuck with them? Whom can you talk to?

    • If you bought tickets you don’t want you can try talking to Daily Getaways. Technically they are non-refundable though.

      • Thanks. Right now, these tickets are $70 cheaper than UCtourist site with their promo. Would you rather buy over there instead? Atleast 95% refund policy applies at UCTourist.
