This morning I noticed that several online shopping portals had some above average shopping mileage payouts you may want to take note of in case you need to make some online purchases.  For example, you will find Saks.com at 15x in a couple of portals and eBags at 16x.  That is only a good deal if you were about to buy something they offer anyway, but if you can time a purchase with an increased payout you can have a nice number of bonus miles given some of the increased rates available today.

  1. For some of these merchants, I can purchase a gift card at Office Max with my Ink and get 5x UR points. If I then use that gift card through the shopping portal do I still get the increased miles payout there also?

    • Yes. A great double dip. When using Visa gift cards to pay, I normally register the cards, since online stores often want a matching shipping address. Also, to get these bonuses, I usually start with a private or incognito browser, with no other windows open.

      • Actually, I was thinking of getting merchant gift cards such as Kohls or Gap since there is no fee for those cards. I usually only get Visa gift cards when there is a special at Staples that offsets the fee.

  2. I am new in this and I just want to make sure to get my points right. I would like to buy on ebags.com through AA portal with an Amex card. Does it work that way?

    • Nouredinne, that will work just fine. Just make sure you are logged into your AA shopping portal when you make the purchase.
