Families with school aged kids generally look to school breaks to hit the road, sky, or sea since the kids are out of school and more available for traveling adventures without the issue of absences. Of course, this means that school breaks are often when there is more demand across the board for travel, and thus the prices go up accordingly. Miles and points can help with this, but sometimes you just need a good fare to be able to justify a family getaway.
Frontier Airlines has fare sales pretty frequently, but they are often for travel on Tuesdays and Wednesdays while school is in session, or something similar that is of little to no use for most families. However, today they have launched a sale that even families can utilize to travel for less!
Today Frontier has launched a summer airfare sale with prices starting at just $39 each way valid for purchase by 5/15/15 for travel from June 2 – August 8, 2015! Of course the lowest fares aren’t available every day this summer, but instead look to Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays to have a shot at finding the lowest prices.
Just as an example, I priced out a round trip from Houston – Denver from July 4th – July 8th for just $136.50 all-in. Temperatures in Houston could be around 100 degrees by then, but Colorado will likely be much cooler. I’m pretty much grounded for all of July, but for those who can getaway, this is a very affordable way to do so during the peak summer travel season!
If you don’t want to spend $136.50 a person out of pocket you could use fixed value points from cards like the Barclaycard Arrival Plus World MasterCard® to take advantage of the sale without spending “real money”. In this case, a $136.50 fare would end up costing you 12,285 points per round trip with the Barclaycard Arrival points after you factor in the 10% points rebate for redeeming for travel charges. You would also earn Frontier Early Returns miles on the flight since it would count as a “paid fare” for their purposes.
Here are some other example fares available this summer via the two-day sale:
Atlanta – Orlando $39
Atlanta – Miami $49
Atlanta – Austin $69
Austin – Las Vegas $69
Cincinnati – Washington Dulles $39
Cleveland – Raleigh Durham $49
Dallas (DFW) – Denver $49
Denver – San Diego $69
Houston – Denver $69
Houston – Philadelphia $89
Miami – New York $79
Trenton – Orlando $89
Washington Dulles – Miami $59
Remember that Frontier is a low-cost airline, so you will be charged extra for virtually everything, so plan accordingly. Still, being able to take a summer trip for as low as $39/each way to some pretty great destinations is fantastic, and I’m excited that perhaps this will help more families experience a little bit more of this great country while the kids are out for the summer!
