Memorial Day is obviously most importantly supposed to be a chance to take time to remember those died while serving in the military, but it has taken on additional meanings in this country over the years. It now also signifies the beginning of summer, time to jump in the pool, fire up the grill, etc. In addition, many, many retailers also use it as an opportunity to bring out some pretty decent sales and discounts. I’m not saying Memorial Day should have been clouded from its intended purpose, but that’s our 2015 reality.
Extra Cash Back via Ebates:
If you are one of the many who will take advantage of some pretty decent sales this weekend then note that ebates.com is offering $5 cash back bonus if you make a $25 purchase via their cash back portal at a retailer via some targeted emails. That is my referral link, but you also get $10 gift card to Walmart, Target, Macy’s, or Kohl’s if you use the link and make your first $25 purchase at any ebates retailer. I have no clue how widespread this bonus $5 offer is, but I had one in my inbox with the subject line “Get Your $5 Cash Bonus Today”, and have seen the same deal mentioned on some other corners of the internet as well. This bonus is in addition to the regular cash back the various retailers offer. They have thousands of retailers from Hyatt to Holiday Inn to Gap to Home Depot to select Amazon.com categories, so it’s highly likely there is something there for you.
Even if you aren’t targeted for a bonus offer like that one, it is still worth noting that cash back on IHG reservations is up to as high as 12.1% for select hotels, with most coming in at 8% cash back, which is still pretty decent. Some other retailers also have “double cash back” this weekend so worth a look before you make an online purchase.
Increased Payouts at Shopping Portals:
Ebates isn’t the only one in on the increased payouts game this weekend. In the American Airlines eShopping Portal ‘m seeing 10x at Macys, 9x at Living Social, 15x at eBags, 8x at Sears, and 30x at Magazines.com. The United MileagePlus Shopping portal has also upped some payouts including Bloomingdale’s at 12x, Gap at 4x, Sears at 8x, and Vision Direct at 10x. They also are offering up to 2,500 bonus United miles if you meet certain spending thresholds.
Buy One Get One Free Movie Day:
As a reminder, Fandango and Visa Signature have teamed up to offer cardholders a free movie ticket worth up to $19.50 on Fridays when you buy two or more tickets via Fandango. This offer is valid until August 21st. This year Chase Visa Signature cardholders get extra time by being able to purchase tickets on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays for a Friday showing (great when the show you want may sell out by Friday). Other Visa Signature cardholders can only purchase on Fridays for Friday shows.
There is a limit of one free movie ticket per 30 days per card, but I’m betting lots of you have way more than one Visa Signature card. There is also a stipulation of a maximum of one ticket per registered email address per 7 day period regardless of the number of Visa Signature cards. Sorry to those from other countries, but this offer is said to be for US issued Visa cards only.
So whether you want to shop, see a movie, or otherwise save money and earn points during this long weekend you have several options! I hope you enjoy the intro to summer and take a little time to remember those who served our country.
