As we hoped/expected, more airline online shopping portals are releasing bonus miles promotions in anticipation of snagging some back to school shopping dollars!  This means you can get the school supplies, school clothes, or anything else you may be in the market for and potentially earn thousands of bonus airline miles in the process.

American Airlines and Southwest Rapid Rewards both have new back-to-school shopping promos that each award up to 3,500 bonus miles that I outllined here.  Now United MileagePlus shopping has entered the bonus promo game as outlined below.

Earn Up To 4,000 Bonus United Miles Via United MileagePlus Shopping Promo:

Beginning today (7/21/15) through 8/12/15 you can earn up to 4,000 bonus United MileagePlus miles for your online shopping on top of the regular miles you earn from the portal and any you earn via paying for your purchases with your rewards earning credit card!

4000 bonus United miles

Bonus mileage earning structure for purchases made from7/21/15 – 8/12/15:

  • 500 bonus miles for cumulative qualifying purchases of at least $125
  • 1,750 bonus miles for cumulative qualifying purchases of at least $600
  • 4,000 bonus miles for cumulative qualifying purchases of $1,500 or more

Some examples of current retailer payouts in the United shopping portal include:

Note that if you do not have a United co-branded credit card such as the United MileagePlus® Explorer Card then the payout rates you see may be lower for some retailers.

Bed, Bath and Beyond 4x

Brooks Brothers 9x

Finish Line 8x

Living Social 6x

Macy’s 4x

Neiman Marcus 8x

New Balance 6x

Office Depot 4x

Sears 6x

Sephora 9x

Staples 4x

As an example of how this can stack, if you made $125 in purchases at Staples online while it is paying out 4x via this promo period you would earn 500 miles from the regular 4x payout, 500 miles via the bonus for spending $125, and then you would earn the miles via the rewards credit card you paid with.

The United shopping portal is also running a sweepstakes right now that awards up to 100,000 miles to the grand prize winner – you can read more about that here.
