Increased 60,000 Point Credit Card Offer!

One of the rewards credit cards we signed up for this year is the Citi ThankYou Premier Credit Card because of the 50,000 point sign-up bonus points and the 3x bonus points it earns on travel.  However, now the offer is even better than we got!

Note this is not an affiliate link, just a better-than-average offer that you should know about!

Via this offer you can get 60,000 sign-up bonus points after spending $3,500 in the first 3 months and the $95 annual fee is waived for the first 12 months.  I have no idea how long this 60k point offer will be available, but I’d personally move on it sooner than later if you are interested.

If you aren’t familiar with this card, know that it earns 3x ThankYou points on travel in the following categories:

  • Gas Stations
  • Public Transportation
  • Taxis and Tolls
  • Parking Garages
  • Airfare and Hotels
  • Cruises
  • Car Rental Agencies
  • And more…

It also earns 2x ThankYou points on dining out and entertainment (concerts, sporting events, movies and more).  It earns 1x on other purchases.  There is no cap on the max number of points that can be earned and points do not expire.

Redeeming Citi ThankYou Points:

You can redeem your ThankYou points earned via this card in their Travel Center on airfare, hotels, cruises, etc. at a rate of 1.25 cents per point.  If you also have the Citi ThankYou Prestige card, the ThankYou points earned via the Premier card can be redeemed for 1.6 cents per point on American Airlines, which is a very good option.  Keep in mind you will also earn American Airlines miles on those tickets!  You can also redeem ThankYou points on gift cards at a rate of one point = one cent (don’t do that).

Another option is to transfer the ThankYou points to their list of hotel and airline partners, which may sound like an eclectic selection of partners, but they can be pretty useful if you know how to leverage some of their award charts.  I’m particularly fond of the opportunities for Star Alliance flights via the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program.  All of the transfers are 1:1 except Hilton that is 1:1.5

Citi ThankYou Transfer Partners:

Hilton HHonors
Asia Miles
EVA Air Infinity MileageLands
Etihad Guest
Flying Blue
Garuda Indonesia Frequent Flyer
Malaysia Airlines Enrich
Qantas Frequent Flyer
Qatar Airways Privilege Club
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

If you are looking to apply for a few limited time increased credit card offers today in addition to the ThankYou Premier card, note that the increased Marriott Rewards® Premier Credit Card  offer ended on August 31st (Monday)

Thanks to Travel Codex for sharing news of the increased offer!

  1. Summer, I just recently applied for this card less than 2 weeks ago for the 50K points for 3K spend in 3 months. How would I go about getting switched to this offer and is that even possible? I just called Citibank and the guy said no; that I would have to apply for a new card. I sort of remember doing this in the past with Citibank but I’m not sure.

  2. Summer,
thanks for the heads up on this!
I Just want to let everybody know about my recent retention offer attempt. I got the card on April 2015 with the 50k points sign up bonus. I tried calling today the 888 766 2484, asked for a retention offer and I got told that since it was more than 90 days, they couldn’t do it. HUCA, but this time I called the 800 842 6596 and I asked to be transferred to the retention dptm. Explained the situation and BAM: I got offered 15K points for a 6K spend in 6 months. Definitely a no-brainer! The important lesson is: don’t give up at the first attempt, call again you might get luckier!

  3. Thanks David
I wasn’t so luck as you, but i got 5000 point for spending $1000 in the next 3 months,Better then nothing,
    Thanks

  4. All, I got my Citi Premiere card back in July (50K bonus), and met the min spend with no problem. After reading through the comments here, I made 2 phone calls….the first attempt was calling 800 842 6596 – and got a ThankYou points rep who couldn’t offer me anything.

I called again, 800 842 6596, and this time I asked to be transferred to retention. After explaining my situation, she came back with 5,000 bonus points (with an add’l spend of $1K over the next 3 months)….I took it.

Thanks for sharing all your experience.

and here is an easy way to MS the first 1K for the citi card:

If you open a new Square account using this link, you and I will both get 1k in free processing. Basically you can charge 1k on your card for no fees..

    • KA, I used your link and it worked; thank you. However, I don’t understand how you and I will each get 1k in free credit card charging if I open a new Square account using your Square link. Will we each be charging the other person’s credit card to each other’s account? Please explain.
      Thank you.
