For years I have wanted to attend the annual United Airlines Family Day Open House that takes place at SFO. It is typically on a weekend in October and the event is made up of lots of aircraft on display, tours of maintenance facilities, a plane pull contest, among other unique events!
Perhaps best of all (to me) it isn’t just an adult oriented activity, but kids are a big part of this day, too! I love getting the next generation involved and excited about aircraft and travel. As the name of the event implies, it is primarily for United employees and their families, but they open up some tickets to travel junkies like us who want to attend.
Here are the details for this year’s 10th annual United Family Day Open House:
- Date: Sunday October 11th
- Time: 11:00am to 4:00pm
- Location: SFO Maintenance Center
This year, we’re bringing back a lot of what you know and love, including aircraft on display (from multiple United narrow and wide-bodies, to stunt planes and civilian models) maintenance facility tours, a plane pull contest, and more. Featured guests also include the United 777 BBQ squad as well as the Patriots precision flying team, which was founded by a United pilot and is the largest civilian-owned aerobatic jet team in the world.
If you want try and secure tickets to the event, you can fill out this survey to indicate your interest in attending. Before you make any firm plans to attend you will want to wait until September 25th to find out if you are cleared to attend or if you will be placed on the “standby list”. Those who are cleared from the standby list will be notified by October 7th.
Good luck if you hope to attend!
