Putting it Together to Earn Thousands of Miles

Let’s assume you wanted to make a pretty big purchase and splurge on some fancy luggage or similar from Saks.com today. If you spent say $750, you could stack these opportunities in a variety of ways to earn some massive mileage payouts along the way.

  • Use Chase Freedom to earn 5x points at department stores via 4th quarter bonus = 3,750 points
  • Make the purchase via the United Shopping site to earn 12x miles per dollar spent at Saks.com = 9,000 United miles
  • Trigger the 2,500 mile bonus payout from United = 2,500 United miles

In total that $750 Saks.com purchase would earn you 15,250 miles and points which are worth a couple hundred dollars themselves. I used a pretty big spending number, but of course this works with smaller purchases, too. These bonuses do not justify spending money you weren’t otherwise going to spend, but it can justify going ahead and making your planned purchases strategically. Also remember to use things like coupon codes and more.

Extra Tip: If you are eyeing Saks specifically also note that they have a 10% off code today VETERAN and you can also potentially go through Paypal with a $400 or greater Saks.com purchase and get $100 off.

If cash back suits your needs better, I have seen some increased cash back offers today at Ebates, and as always CashBackMonitor is a great resource for quickly comparing the payouts from cash back and miles and points sites.

The best deals are usually the ones where multiple offers are at play together, and right now there are ample opportunities to stack deals get a jump start on your holiday lists while earning a nice bonus for yourself in the process.
