Thanks to a 25th anniversary award sale by Iberia that knocks 25% off of the regular award prices, you can fly from the US to Europe in business class on Iberia from just 25,500 Avios + about $93.27! Most programs charge more than double that amount for business class awards to Europe.
This 25% discount on awards is valid for Iberia operated flights purchased by April 11, 2017 for travel March 27, 2017 – June 15, 2017 and October 1, 2017 – December 15, 2017. The promo does not include high season dates.
Within the US, Iberia operates flights to Madrid from Chicago, Miami, Boston, New York, and Los Angeles and utilizes a distance based award chart to price flights…though Chicago – Madrid prices in the 5th band…
To give a few examples of prices available via this promo, “Blue Economy” one-way flights from Miami to Madrid start at 15,950 Avios + taxes/fees and those from Chicago, Miami, Boston, and New York start at 12,750 + taxes/fees. Premium Economy would start at 19,150 Avios + taxes/fees and Business Class starts at 25,500 + taxes/fees.
In my searches, economy award flights were pretty easy to come by, premium economy was a little harder but not too bad, and business class was tough, especially from some markets. I found business class awards from Chicago to Madrid easier than in my searches from Miami and JFK.
If you can find the availability, flying in business class from Chicago to Madrid for just 25,500 Avios + about $100 in taxes/fees is pretty spectacular! If you aren’t familiar with Iberia, One Mile at a Time has a good review of flying Iberia Business Class.
You can transfer Iberia Avios from Amex Membership Rewards at a rate of 1,000 Membership Reward points = 800 Iberia Avios. You can also transfer British Airways Avios to Iberia Avios at a 1:1 ratio, but only if both accounts are at least 3 months old, and both have had some type of activity in them (including transfers from Amex Membership Rewards).
Remember you have to book these awards by April 11th in order to get the 25% savings. Anyone headed to Europe in business class for just over 25,000 points this year?!
