The limited time offering of 100,000 Hilton sign-up bonus points when you hit the spending requirement on the Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card may be the most eye-catching portion of the offer, but it is actually only part of the deal. This bonus that runs through 5/31/17 also has a unique component that is awarded at the first anniversary in the form of a weekend anniversary night that is valid at most of the Hilton properties around the world! For those not overly familiar, this anniversary award night has historically not been a part of the card’s sign-up bonus structure.

The Hilton weekend award night is insanely valuable as the top tier Hilton resorts and hotels can have standard award rates of 95,000 points per night (though Hilton no longer has a formal award chart). There is a $75 annual fee for this card, so the anniversary night isn’t exactly “free”, but it is not hard to get far more than $75 in value from this night. There are thousands of Hilton properties around the world to pick from, but example of ones which catch my eye (and would be a great value on an award night certificate) include Grand Wailea Waldorf Astoria Resort in Hawaii, Conrad New York, Waldorf Hilton London, and the Waldorf Astoria Park City.

I really want to visit the Grand Wailea on Maui at some point on a Hawaiian family vacation, and doing it with a Hilton weekend award night instead of 95,000 Hilton points (or paying $494) sounds pretty fabulous! Though note that standard award availability at that property can be tough at times.

If those places aren’t your cup of tea, there are also top tier Hilton properties in French Polynesia, Asia, Australia, and beyond. Even if you redeem the award night somewhere much less exotic than French Polynesia, we all know that major cities across this country and around the world often have rates well over $75 per night, so getting your money’s worth from the weekend anniversary award night is not a tall order regardless of your exact travel plans.

The terms indicate that you have 12 months to redeem the weekend award night from the time it issued, so if you planned it right you could pair it with the two weekend award nights that come via the sign-up bonus from the Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Card to string together a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night stay all on Hilton weekend award nights!

There is a relatively small list of about 40 Hilton properties excluded from the weekend night certificates here, and is made up primarily of the all-inclusive properties and the Hilton Grand Vacation properties. It is a bummer you have to wait a whole year to get the anniversary weekend award night, but it is still a notable part of the limited time offering and is not part of the historic normal offer for the card!

  1. Agree many very nice Hilton properties and I find Hilton easier than some chains to travel with children internationally. Stayed at the Conrad in New York, however, and definitely wouldn’t recommend. Rooms not very nice and breakfast benefit for gold members was the most pitiful I’ve ever experienced. A Fairfield inn would be a better breakfast!

  2. If you’re going to push cards like this, I think you should be honest about the cost of the free night. You have to pay two annual fees of $75 to get it.

    • Jim, yes, it’s a $75 per year annual fee. I think I mention the fee a few times, but sorry it that wasn’t clear. You would pay it the first year when you get 100k points (assuming you hit spending requirement) and then again the second year when you get the weekend award night. After that there are no built in bonuses related to the anniversary.

  3. I’m a bit confused with the term anniversary, is it just the 1st annivery that you will receive a free weekend night certificate or is it every anniversary? Thanks,

    • It is just at the first anniversary. Normally with this card there is no anniversary award night, so including it at the first anniversary is unique to this offering. I agree that part is a little confusing since I can’t think of any other card where that is the case.

  4. I find that points don’t go very far with Hilton because they can be exceedingly high since they don’t have an award chart, so they are based on the nightly rate. I don’t think it’s worth getting this card because of that and only 1 free night versus Hyatt that gives 2 and 1 every year after that. But I do love their modern, spacious upkept rooms every time. We were very impressed with the Hilton Grand Vacations in Las Vegas, especially because there’s no casino, hence no smoking and wild party goers!
