A very intriguing and rewarding program with which I have virtually no personal experience is the Kimpton Inner Circle program. I’ve stayed at a couple of really swanky Kimpton properties, but I haven’t even come close to having any sort of Kimpton status with my very infrequent visits. But, maybe that will change.

Before I get to how that can change much faster than you might guess, let me spend a minute on what the official perks are for a top tier Kimpton Inner Circle member.

Kimpton Karma Inner Circle Status

Kimpton Karma has four different tiers you earn by staying a minimum number of eligible stays or nights per calendar year.

  • Tier 1 – just sign-up
  • Tier 2 – 3 stays or 10 nights
  • Tier 3 – 7 stays or 20 nights
  • Inner Circle – 14 stays or 40 nights

Top tier Inner Circle members get all of the perks of the first three tiers such as a $10 “Raid the Bar” credit per stay ($15 in NYC), $30 in-room spa credit, and more, but they also get unlimited upgrades, welcome amenities on each visit, late check-out priority, greater access to award nights, and, of greatest interest to me, a free night at each new Kimpton property “once they get their sea legs”. That alone is a pretty sweet offering as they have a number of properties in development including ones that just opened in Nashville and Amsterdam, and some underway in GrenadaParis, and Palm Springs, among many others. Sadly, the gorgeous new Grand Cayman property has already finished offering free nights to Inner Circle members.

While we are on the topic of Kimpton perks they also just launched a new “secret password” you can say at check-in for a surprise! The new secret password is Sun Salutation and it is valid from 6/1/17 – 9/3/17.

Maximize the Kimpton Double Stays Promotion

Okay so the reason all of this is relevant today is that Kimpton is running a double stay credit promo where you not only get up to 25% off the Best Available Rates, but double stay credit for eligible stays booked by May 28, 2017, for travel from May 17 – September 5, 2017 using the code FLING.

Kimpton isn’t a huge chain, so since top tier Inner Circle status normally only requites 14 eligible stays in a calendar year, double stay credit means it can theoretically be done in just seven stays. And if your stays happen to just be one night each, then it can be done essentially in just seven nights.

At the same time you were doing that you would also be earning towards free award nights that are awarded after 7 eligible stays or 20 eligible nights at Kimpton hotels, whichever comes first. If you completed the seven necessary stays at double stay credit to earn Inner Circle status via this promo, at the same time you would also earn two free nights to use at their gorgeous properties via the double stay promo, at least according to my reading and understanding of the terms. This is sounding better and better… Now to convince Josh to go back to hotel hopping…

If you do decide to go for it, make sure you check the eligible dates and participating hotels carefully and be sure to book via the “FLING” promo rates by May 28, 2017. If you have Inner Circle status I’d love for you to weigh in with your thoughts on the perks! Anyone else as intrigued by this as I am?

Pingbacks

  1. […] Earn Top Tier Kimpton Status Quickly:  Kimpton is one of those hotel chains that is kind of part of IHG, and kind of not.  You can’t use IHG points or free night certificates at Kimpton properties.  Kimpton has a small footprint, but their hotels tend to be very nice and they seem to have a good loyalty program.  Well, Kimpton is currently running a good promo where you could earn their top tier status with a rather mild mattress run.  This interests me as I’d like to be pampered at some Kimpton properties. 1. Note on Amsterdam: For Kimpton De Witt, IHG® Rewards Club terms and the IHG Lowest Price Promise apply. Kimpton Karma® Rewards and the Kimpton Best Rate Guarantee do not apply. Please use IHG.com to manage your booking with Kimpton De Witt.

Probably means no free night for Kimpton Karma Inner Circle members.

  2. Kimpton Inner Circle status is usually very rewarding, particularly on the West Coast in Seattle and Portland where service is top notch. The downside is that they have limited their award redemption inventory (maybe after the merger with IHG?). It used to be that if there was a standard room available you could always book it as an Inner Circle, but that is no longer the case and free nights can be pretty difficult to redeem.
Sadly, Amsterdam is not eligible for the free night benefit, and they’ve eliminated the $50 credit for the restaurant at new properties.
In any event, a stay at most Kimptons is still pretty special and I hope they don’t have to integrate more tightly with IHG because that will almost certainly lead to a decline in the quality of their loyalty program.

  3. Award booking became such a pain with darn right impossible bookings of awards even 6 weeks out with every room available (for purchase) . I had 10 award nights that went unused and expired which was a sin. I went from IC to no status with them a few years ago. Management/ service seems to very dependent on the regional managers. For example, I remain loyal to the Philly locations and have only had great visits but ALL of the Florida locations have remained horribly inconsistent for me sometimes not honoring booked reservations with mgmt eluding to regional policies seemingly tying to them knowing that a much higher percentage of guests were single booking tourists as opposed to the more regular biz travelers . Kimpton used to be my #1 with SPG #2 wherever I went. Kimpton had the most loyal group I’ve seen to date it’s a shame things have changed a bit for the worse.
