BONUS TRANSFER OFFER HAS EXPIRED!
I’m a huge fan of American Express Membership Rewards transfer bonuses where you get more points than normal when transferring to a hotel or airline partner during a bonus period. Just as there was last year about this time, there is now a new 25% transfer bonus from Amex Membership Rewards to Hawaiian Airlines running through 6/21/17. Those bonus works from Membership Rewards eligible cards such as the new Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card from American Express or The Platinum Card® from American Express.
Since there is normally a 1:1 transfer ratio from Membership Rewards to Hawaiian, during the 25% bonus you will get 1,250 HawaiianMiles for every 1,000 Amex Membership Reward points transferred..
You can view the entire HawaiianMiles award chart here, but I noted some highlights below. Note that these are the one-way saver award rates, and it can be hard to find saver availability on some routes…especially if you are looking for something like first class from JFK to Honolulu!
- Flights between neighbor islands: 7,500+ miles
- North America – Hawaii economy: 20,000+ miles
North America – Hawaii first class: 40,000+ miles
- North America – Hawaii upgrade on revenue ticket: 25,000+ miles
Hawaiian Airlines operates nonstop flights from these US cities to Hawaii:
- Las Vegas
- Los Angeles
- New York City
- San Diego
- San Francisco
- San Jose
Awesome New Lie Flat First Class Seats on Some Routes
If you score one of the new lie-flat seats, such as on the JFK – HNL route, then you are in for one of the best ways to get to Hawaii from North America! The ‘trick’ is that I virtually never see saver first class availability on the JFK – HNL route, and it is hard to find even on other routes from the West Coast, though it does come available at times from some cities. From JFK you are realistically looking at paying the standard 80,000 one-way award rate for first class, which with the 25% transfer bonus is a more palatable 64,000 Membership Reward points each direction.
If you were able to score a first class seat for just 40,000 Hawaiian miles one-way, or the equivalent of 32,000 Membership Reward points during the 25% transfer bonus, I’d call that a great deal! Getting coach round trip tickets to Hawaii from as far as JFK from just 32,000 Membership Reward points transferred to Hawaiian is also a solid offering. Keep in mind that from the West Coast there can be better mileage deals such as flying for 12,500 British Airways Avios each way on their partners American or Alaska, but from New York this is about as good as it gets for some Hawaiian paradise relaxation for less!
