JetBlue has just announced 25% off of award flights this fall for travel from 9/6/17 – 11/7/17, as long as you book the award by this Saturday, August 26, 2017. This is a fantastic discount, and it takes the value of your JetBlue TrueBlue points north of 2 cents each in some cases.
In my test searches, the 25% discount codes automatically, so you probably wouldn’t even know it was a sale if you hadn’t been told. I tested a flight from JFK – Bermuda that priced at $99 during the sale dates and $99 after the sale dates, and during the award sale dates it was 4,000 points, and after it was 5,300 points. That difference is indeed a 25% reduction of the normal number of points required.
For those who are into a cents per mile calculation, that is about a 2.35 cents per JetBlue point return, which is very good. Some of my other test searches on routes like Houston to Boston or JFK weren’t quite as high of a return, but they were still over 2 cents per point during the award sale, which is better than normal.
I did not see the same pattern on Mint prices using points as they held steady in my tests at around 1.3 cents per point regardless of the date, though it is possible I just didn’t test enough dates/routes. I haven’t yet found posted terms for this award sale, so I don’t know exactly which award flights were supposed to be discounted.
This 25% award discount will stack with the 10% of redeemed JetBlue points back benefit from the JetBlue Plus Card. This means you could fly nonstop from New York to Bermuda for just 3,600 points after the 10% bonus posts back to your account, which is pretty awesome!
That card also awards 6x points on JetBlue charges, scores you a 50% discount on on-board drinks, gives you a free checked bag, and awards 30,000 points after you spend $1,000 on the card in the first 90 days. If you were able to redeem those 30,000 points at rates like we are talking about above, then those points are worth $600 -$700!
If you got in on the recent JetBlue status match, or otherwise have Mosaic elite status, then you should be able to make changes to your existing award flights if you can now rebook them at a lower rate.
Happy award flight shopping!
