Those who live in California have all the fun – first they could get a Southwest Companion Pass just by getting a new credit card and making one purchase and now they can get 5,000 bonus Alaska Airlines miles by joining Mileage Plan by December 31, 2017, and taking a Virgin America or Alaska Airlines flight between now and June 30, 2018! To be eligible for this promo, the flight needs to be a paid flight that is eligible to earn Alaska miles.

Alaska and Virgin really want to be at the top of Californian’s minds when it comes time to book flights, and so on this offer page, they also remind you that they have added 33 new nonstop routes from the West Coast already this year and they have more than 90 nonstop flights within California between 12 cities.

For those not familiar with the Alaska program, 5,000 miles is enough for a shorter award flight such as one heading between San Francisco and Seattle. In other words, this is kind of a buy one flight get one free situation, if you were looking to use your 5,000 bonus miles for a shorter award flight. Of course, if you have a family, this is something the whole crew could theoretically participate in, though you do have to call Alaska to set up a Mileage Plan account for a child.

Terms and Conditions:

Bonus miles offer is valid only for new Mileage Plan members residing in the state of California (as indicated by the mailing address in such Mileage Plan member’s account) who enroll between November 15 and December 31, 2017 and complete a qualifying Alaska or Virgin America one-way flights between the enrollment date and June 30, 2018. To qualify, the flight must both be eligible to earn Mileage Plan miles and must be credited to the new Mileage Plan account; codeshare flights with other airlines do not qualify. An individual may receive the bonus a maximum of one time, even if they hold multiple separate Mileage Plan accounts. Offer is not combinable with other Mileage Plan enrollment or account activation promotions. Mileage Plan conditions of membership apply.

  1. Thanks! My parents are in CA. I want to help them get to Hawaii. I have the Alaska Airlines companion pass which I was hoping to use for them to fly there. Can they get the 5k miles if they sign up for this promotion and then pay for one ticket and then use my companion pass? Thanks for all of your amazing resources! 🙂

  2. There’s also a current Amex offer out for spending $250+ on an AS flight and earning 5,000 MR points, which would stack nicely with this.
