AAdvantage Barclaycards Gain New “Super Power”

In the last few years airline frequent flyer programs have transformed from being largely based around how many miles someone flies in a calendar year, to a hybrid of caring very much both about how many miles are flown by a customer, but also how much was spent on those tickets. This opens the door for various airline co-branded credit cards to factor into the equation with credit card specific waivers to help cover the spending facet of earning elite…

Bonus Miles for Some AAdvantage Aviator Cards

I know there is a fine line of helpfulness when sharing various targeted offers on this blog, but when an offer has a history of being available to many I think it is more useful than not to go ahead and share. In the case of targeted spending bonuses on the former US Airways MasterCard, now AAdvantage Aviator Card, this seems to apply. This card has a long history of offering cardmembers lucrative targeted spending bonuses for putting X amount…

Start Saving for College the “Easy” Way + Try to Win $529

I was very lucky to make it out of my years as an undergrad at the University of Texas at Austin without any student loan debt thanks to scholarships and my parents’ support, but the same could not be said about my years in grad school at NYU. I’m embarrassed to even tell you how much my Master’s degree cost, even after scholarships. I will say that I graduated from NYU in 2005, and now 11 years later, I still have…

American Reduced Mileage Awards from 5,850 Miles for Short Flights

When the American Airlines AAdvantage program changed last month, some award chart prices actually got cheaper, including flights that were a total of 500 miles or less within the 48 states and Canada. These short flights are now 7,500 miles for a saver award each way instead of the normal 12,500 miles price for longer routes. There was question about how those flights would price with the discount that co-branded American Airlines credit card holders get on certain routes get…

Don’t Make This Mistake With Citi ThankYou Points

There are many similarities with the credit card points earned by the Amex, Chase, Citi, and BarclayCard programs, but there are also some big differences. When you are accustomed to how points in one program operate, and then you begin to accrue and utilize some in another, it can be easy to make some big mistakes if you don’t slow down and double check the nuances of how the various programs operate.   For example, when you use your favorite card…

Deciding Whether to Keep the AAdvantage Aviator Credit Card

Around a year ago my family, and many others, jumped at the chance to add a (second) US Airways MasterCard to our credit card collection when the sign-up bonus increased to 50,000 miles. Not only was the sign-up bonus good, but we all knew the timeframe to get the card was quickly closing with the American and US Airways merger nearing completion. Indeed the card did close to new applications in March of 2015, and now the cards have converted to different…

Breaking Down the 30,000 AAdvantage Mile Bonus Offer

It is pretty common for some rewards credit cards to periodically offer an incentive for cardholders to use the cards more via paying out bonus points either in certain categories or for spending a certain amount in a specified time period. I’m sure the idea behind these offers is that once you get used to having that card in rotation that you will keep it in rotation even after the bonus period is over. The old US Airways MasterCard was…

The Upromise MasterCard and Saving for College for Less

As you may already know we are about to double our kid count around here with our second daughter due soon.  It sounds like a minor transition in some ways, but a pretty major transition in others.  One way that it is a major transition is in terms of finances.  Paying for two sets of everything from preschool to college is a bit daunting, and will be a major shock to the budgeting system we are used to.  I know…
