Stay in the Shadow of Manhattan at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City

As I’m sure you know, New York City is an expensive place to visit…or live for that matter. It is also one of the most exciting and vibrant places in the United States, so it is no surprise that it is where lots of folks want to visit, self included. There are over 100,000 hotel rooms in New York City, but those rooms can be pretty pricey with the average daily rate at $268+ a night and likely rising. This means…

Family Travel: One Year Later

What a difference a year makes. It may be a trite saying, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true. It is true in so many circumstances and situations, but today I’ll mostly keep the discussion travel related. Roughly one year ago today I was doing exactly what I am doing today. I was boarding a plane to head to the annual Freddie Awards. The Freddie Awards is a travel/loyalty program gathering where the best programs, promotions, and more from around…

A Vegas “Vacation”, Part 1

What a trip. No really, what. a. trip. Any two night trip to Vegas is probably insane and exhausting. Any two night work trip is often busy and tiring. Any two night trip with two children is probably going to wipe you out. Any two nights spent taking turns holding a baby who wouldn’t sleep in the crib for one minute is going to bring you to your knees begging for sleep. Put those all together and that was our…

Good Weekend, Quick Updates ($96 HOU-BOS RT, United Bonus for Rental Cars, and More)

I’ll blame the Japan/US time zone difference for not wishing everyone Good Friday on Good Friday, but will instead shift it to wishing you all a Good Weekend. Probably more universally applicable anyway. I head back from Japan today in order to get home in time to play the role of the Easter Bunny. It’s a bit of a dichotomous life jumping from the Park Hyatt Toyko and hanging with a group of Flyertalkers in Japan one day to getting…

2012 Freddie Award Winners

Last night I attended the 2012 Freddie Awards and then posted about the experience.  It was kind of late by the time it was all over, so I didn’t do a complete listing of all of the winners, but now that morning has dawned I wanted to provide a full list for anyone who is interested.  I also want to say a quick word about how the winners are selected since it isn’t just based on the number of votes…

A Night at the Freddie Awards

There will undoubtedly be many great posts on many sites about the Freddie Awards that will review the winners/losers in the various award categories, but while I will cover a couple of those, I really want to just take you through what it was like to be a part of the “Freddies experience”.  This was my first time at this event, so I really didn’t know what to expect.  It turned out to be a pretty fancy and very well…

New Marriott Promo, Ultimate Rewards Redemptions, FTU, and More!

This post may be as scattered as my brain as I get ready to head out of town to The Freddie Awards, the Randy Peterson Executive Summit, and the Frequent Traveler University, so consider yourself warned.  Packing for myself isn’t that bad, but trying to get the house and the toddler’s things ready to have mom gone for several days is far from simple!  Am I the only one who lays out outfits for their little ones for every day…

Why You Should Vote in the 2012 Freddie Awards

I just finished casting my vote in the 2012 Freddie Awards and it was actually pretty fun looking back at the different airline and hotel promotions from 2011.  Of course, my definition of “fun” may be a smidge different than that of the average bear.  So, even if you don’t think revisiting all of the loyalty programs and promotions from the previous year is fun, you should still strongly consider taking a few minutes to let your opinions be heard.…
